Data Centre Technical Manager
About the Role
The Data Centre Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and reliability of all mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems within the data centre. This role ensures the effective execution of preventive maintenance programs, compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, and the efficient management of vendors, technical teams, and helpdesk operations. Reporting to the Senior Facilities Manager, the incumbent plays a key role in maintaining high availability and operational excellence in a mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Facilities Management (Operations & Maintenance)
- Manage and support the implementation of operational standards, preventive maintenance schedules, repair initiatives, and asset replacement programs to ensure optimal facility performance and minimize equipment downtime.
- Monitor and continuously improve facility performance by identifying energy-saving opportunities and enhancing Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).
- Maintain an accurate site asset register and ensure all statutory inspections, certifications, and compliance requirements are up to date.
- Monitor inventory levels of critical spare parts and recommend replenishment when necessary.
- Prepare and submit operational reports and performance metrics in a timely manner.
- Coordinate and manage ad hoc engineering and facility improvement projects.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) to ensure safe execution of maintenance activities.
- Provide second-level operational support and assume responsibility for site operations during the absence of the Facilities Manager.
- Communicate effectively with clients through reports, presentations, and operational review meetings.
2. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with company, client, and regulatory HSE standards.
- Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and implement appropriate risk mitigation measures.
- Collaborate closely with the HSE Executive to plan, implement, and monitor site safety initiatives and compliance programs.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are executed safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
3. Procurement & Vendor Management
- Evaluate vendor performance against agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Support procurement activities while ensuring compliance with both client and company procurement policies.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with contractors and service providers to ensure quality service delivery.
4. Technical Team Leadership
- Lead, supervise, and develop the technical operations team to ensure efficient day-to-day facility operations.
- Prepare job descriptions, allocate manpower, and manage work schedules to optimize operational efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to engineering staff while ensuring adherence to operational procedures and safety standards.
- Lead and coordinate critical maintenance activities, including those conducted outside normal working hours when required.
5. Helpdesk Management
- Oversee helpdesk operations to ensure timely response, resolution, and escalation of facility-related issues.
- Monitor service requests and ensure compliance with established response and resolution SLAs.
- Drive continuous improvement in service delivery and customer satisfaction.
