Data Centre Network Engineer / Network Support Engineer

Location: Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Employment Type: 12-month renewable contract (5-day work week, 9am to 6pm)

Salary: Up to RM8,000, depending on experience

Work Arrangement: On-site data centre environment

Job Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Data Centre Network Engineer / Network Support Engineer to support network infrastructure operations within a mission-critical data centre environment.

The ideal candidate should have strong practical experience in network troubleshooting, switch/router configuration, VLANs, subnetting, routing and switching, firewall basics, fibre connectivity, and data centre infrastructure support.

Candidates with CCNA or above will be highly preferred. This role is suitable for candidates from Network Engineer, NOC Engineer, Network Support Engineer, Data Centre Network Technician, Field Network Engineer, or Infrastructure Support backgrounds who are comfortable working in a hands-on data centre environment.

Responsibilities

Support daily data centre network operations, including troubleshooting, configuration support, connectivity validation, incident response, and infrastructure support.

Configure and troubleshoot network devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, access switches, wireless devices, and related network equipment.

Support VLAN configuration, trunk/access ports, IP addressing, subnetting, gateway verification, routing/switching issues, NAT/VPN/firewall rule support, and basic Layer 2 / Layer 3 troubleshooting.

Troubleshoot practical network issues such as link failure, port error, VLAN mismatch, IP conflict, wrong gateway, subnet issue, packet loss, latency, routing issue, STP/LAG issue, blocked ports, and failover scenarios.

Perform fibre and copper connectivity support, including cable tracing, patching, labelling, SFP/QSFP replacement, link validation, loopback testing, and coordination with network teams.

Assist in network deployment, migration, firmware upgrade, patching, maintenance windows, and change activities within the data centre environment.

Support data centre floor activities when required, including rack & stack, cable management, equipment installation, hardware checks, remote hands, asset tracking, and physical infrastructure verification.

Work closely with network engineers, data centre operations, facilities teams, vendors, contractors, and customers to resolve incidents and support project delivery.

Follow MOPs, SOPs, change management procedures, maintenance windows, safety procedures, access control, and data centre operational standards.

Maintain accurate documentation for network devices, port mapping, IP allocation, cabling, asset inventory, incident reports, and change activities.

Requirements

Diploma or Degree in IT, Computer Networking, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related field.

Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience in network support, NOC, data centre network operations, infrastructure support, field network engineering, or similar environment.

Hands-on knowledge in:

  • TCP/IP, IP addressing and subnetting
  • VLANs, trunk and access ports
  • Routing and switching
  • DNS, DHCP, NAT and VPN
  • Layer 2 / Layer 3 troubleshooting
  • Switch/router/firewall configuration
  • Fibre/copper cabling and connectivity testing

Experience with network devices such as Cisco, Aruba, Huawei, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, MikroTik, Dell or similar.

Able to troubleshoot network scenarios involving gateway reachability, subnet mismatch, VLAN issues, STP/LAG behaviour, blocked ports, routing path failure, and network failover.

Familiar with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix, Grafana, Wireshark, ping, traceroute, ipconfig/ifconfig, console access, and show commands.

Comfortable supporting both network configuration/troubleshooting and hands-on data centre floor activities.

CCNA or equivalent network certification is strongly preferred.

CCNP, JNCIA, HCIA/HCIP, Fortinet, Palo Alto or other network certifications will be advantageous.
