Job Description

A leading organisation in the APAC region is seeking a Data Engineer with expertise in Snowflake and cloud platforms to join their growing team based in Kuala Lumpur. This role offers you the chance to work at the forefront of data engineering, designing and optimising modern cloud-native data solutions for clients across Southeast Asia and beyond.

What you'll do:

As a Data Engineer - Snowflake and Cloud Platforms based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play an integral role in architecting advanced cloud-native data solutions for clients across Southeast Asia and the wider APAC region. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with analysts, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver secure platforms that enable rapid insight generation. You will be responsible for building reliable pipelines using AWS, Azure or GCP; optimising Snowflake environments; constructing scalable models; supporting governance initiatives; contributing to pre-sales engagements; and working closely with colleagues across international time zones. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also strong interpersonal skills-your ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and business users will be key. You'll have the opportunity to contribute ideas that shape the direction of a growing regional practice while enjoying flexibility in how you work.

  • Design, build, and maintain comprehensive end-to-end data pipelines across multiple cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP, ensuring seamless integration and reliability.
  • Develop and optimise Snowflake-based data platforms tailored for analytics and reporting use cases, focusing on scalability and performance.
  • Construct robust ETL/ELT pipelines as well as scalable data models that underpin enterprise-level analytics initiatives for clients throughout the APAC region.
  • Enhance the performance, reliability, and scalability of cloud data architectures by applying best practices in optimisation and monitoring.
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate these into effective technical solutions that drive value.
  • Contribute actively to initiatives around data governance, security protocols, quality assurance processes, and lineage tracking to ensure compliance and trustworthiness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams located in Australia and other APAC countries to share knowledge, solve problems collectively, and deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support pre-sales activities by participating in solution design sessions, conducting technical workshops for clients, and developing proof-of-concept (POC) demonstrations.
  • Engage regularly with internal teams as well as external clients to provide expert guidance on cloud-native data strategies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies in the modern data stack ecosystem to continuously improve platform capabilities.

What you bring:

To excel as a Data Engineer - Snowflake and Cloud Platforms in Kuala Lumpur, your background should include substantial hands-on experience architecting cloud-based solutions using major providers like AWS, Azure or GCP. You'll bring proven expertise managing Snowflake deployments for analytics purposes along with advanced SQL capabilities that allow you to model complex datasets efficiently. Familiarity with modern tools such as dbt or Databricks will help you integrate seamlessly into existing workflows. Your understanding of governance frameworks-including security protocols-will ensure all solutions meet regulatory standards. Beyond technical acumen, your interpersonal strengths are vital: being able to communicate clearly with both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders fosters trust and drives successful outcomes. Experience working across different time zones showcases your flexibility while your commitment to ongoing learning means you're always ready to adopt new approaches. By combining these attributes with a collaborative spirit, you'll thrive within this supportive team environment.

  • At least four years experience working in data engineering or analytics engineering roles within cloud environments is essential for success in this position.
  • Demonstrated expertise designing cloud-agnostic architectures using AWS, Azure or GCP ensures you can deliver versatile solutions for diverse client needs.
  • Hands-on experience deploying Snowflake in production settings is mandatory so you can confidently manage complex analytics workloads.
  • Advanced SQL skills combined with deep knowledge of data modelling techniques allow you to create efficient structures that support enterprise analytics.
  • Proficiency with modern data stack tools such as dbt, Databricks or Power BI enables you to leverage cutting-edge technologies for optimal results.
  • Solid understanding of principles related to data governance-including security measures-and DevOps practices ensures compliance and operational excellence.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities paired with clear communication skills help you engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience collaborating across regional or international time zones demonstrates your adaptability within global teams.
  • Ability to work independently while also thriving in communal settings highlights your dependability within collaborative environments.
  • A passion for continuous learning keeps you up-to-date on industry trends so you can bring fresh perspectives to every project.
