Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to ensure the stability, security, performance, and high availability of the organization's database infrastructure.

In this role, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing database systems while enforcing database standards, policies, and best practices. You will work closely with application development teams to design and maintain efficient logical and physical database models that support business applications.

You will also be responsible for database performance tuning, troubleshooting production issues, and implementing robust backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain enterprise database systems.
  • Ensure database availability, reliability, security, and optimal performance.
  • Perform database upgrades, patching, and ongoing maintenance activities.

Database Standards & Governance

  • Develop, document, and enforce database standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Ensure database configurations comply with organizational and security requirements.

Application & Development Support

  • Collaborate with application development teams to design, review, and optimize logical and physical database models.
  • Support application deployments and database-related enhancements.

Performance Monitoring & Optimization

  • Monitor database health and system performance.
  • Perform database tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.

Troubleshooting & Incident Resolution

  • Investigate and resolve database-related incidents, errors, and performance issues.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.

Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity

  • Design, implement, maintain, and regularly test database backup and recovery strategies.
  • Ensure database recoverability and support disaster recovery planning.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator or in Database Management.

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • MongoDB
  • PostgreSQL
  • Oracle Database
  • MariaDB / MySQL

  • Strong knowledge of SQL and database administration tools.
  • Solid understanding of database design, data modelling, and normalization.
  • Experience administering databases in Linux and Windows environments.
  • Experience with Unix Shell scripting and Windows PowerShell.

  • Basic understanding of programming languages such as:
  • Java
  • .NET
  • Node.js

Language Skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Mandarin and Cantonese proficiency will be an added advantage.

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ITIL Foundation Certification or higher.
  • Professional database certifications such as:
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
  • Microsoft SQL Server Certification
  • MongoDB Certified DBA
  • PostgreSQL Certification

  • Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise environments.
