Reports to: Head Nurse / Nurse Manager
Works closely with: Nephrologist, Medical Officers, Dialysis Technicians and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Ø Provide safe and competent nursing care to patients undergoing haemodialysis.
Ø Assess patients before, during and after dialysis, including vital signs, pre and post dialysis weight, fluid status and general condition.
Ø Perform pre and post dialysis assessments and ensure patients are clinically fit for treatment.
Ø Prepare and operate dialysis machines and equipment according to established protocols and safety standards.
Ø Initiate, monitor and discontinue haemodialysis treatment according to prescribed treatment plans.
Ø Monitor patients closely throughout dialysis and identify any changes in condition or potential complications.
Ø Respond promptly and appropriately to dialysis emergencies, including hypotension, cramps, bleeding, chest pain and other adverse events.
Ø Provide appropriate care and monitoring of vascular access, including AV fistula, AV graft and dialysis catheters.
Ø Administer prescribed medications and treatments safely.
Ø Maintain strict infection prevention and control practices within the dialysis unit.
Ø Provide patients and their families with education regarding dialysis treatment, fluid and dietary restrictions, medications and vascular access care.
Ø Maintain accurate and complete nursing documentation, treatment records and patient charts.
Ø Communicate and collaborate effectively with nephrologists and other members of the healthcare team.
Ø Ensure dialysis equipment and treatment areas are clean, safe and properly prepared.
Ø Check and maintain adequate supplies, medications and dialysis consumables.
Ø Participate in quality improvement, clinical audits, staff training and continuing professional development.
Ø Comply with organization's policies, clinical protocols, occupational safety requirements and professional nursing standards.
Ø Perform other nursing duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or Clinical Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements
Ø Diploma or Degree in Nursing recognised by the relevant Malaysian nursing authorities.
Ø Registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board with a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
Ø Previous experience in haemodialysis or renal nursing is an advantage, not a necessity.
Ø Fresh graduates with a strong interest in renal/dialysis nursing may also be considered, subject to training requirements.
Ø Knowledge of haemodialysis procedures, dialysis machines and vascular access care is preferred.
Ø Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ø Compassionate, team player, responsible and patient-centred.
Ø Able to work independently and remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
Ø Willing to work shifts, overtime and public holidays when required.
