The Role
- Manage the overall operations of the Engineering Department, including maintenance, repairs, and technical services across the resort.
- Ensure all guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities, villas, restaurants, kitchens, spa, recreational areas, and plant rooms are maintained to resort standards.
- Develop, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance programs for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, kitchen, laundry, and life safety systems.
- Lead, supervise, and develop the Engineering team by conducting regular staff training, performance evaluations, and coaching to improve productivity and technical competency.
- Monitor utilities consumption and implement energy-saving, sustainability, and cost-control initiatives.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, CAPEX planning, maintenance expenses, and inventory control.
- Oversee contractors, suppliers, and third-party service providers to ensure work quality and compliance with hotel standards.
- Plan and manage renovation, upgrading, and refurbishment projects within approved timelines and budgets.
- Ensure compliance with DOSH, BOMBA, OSHA, environmental, and other statutory requirements.
- Maintain all fire and life safety systems, emergency equipment, and evacuation procedures in accordance with regulations and company standards.
- Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits throughout the resort.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, logs, licenses, permits, and maintenance documentation.
- Coordinate closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Security, and other departments to support smooth operations and guest satisfaction.
- Participate in management meetings and contribute to operational planning and improvement initiatives.
- Be available for emergency situations and major operational issues when required.
Talent Profile
- Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 8–10 years of engineering experience in hospitality operations, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, generators, electrical systems, plumbing, water treatment systems, kitchen and laundry equipment, and building maintenance.
- Familiar with preventive maintenance systems and engineering best practices in luxury hospitality operations.
- Good understanding of Malaysian statutory and safety regulations including DOSH, BOMBA, OSHA, Suruhanjaya Tenaga, and environmental requirements.
- Proven experience in managing departmental budgets, CAPEX projects, and cost-control initiatives.
- Experience in handling renovation, upgrading, and refurbishment projects.
- Ability to analyze technical issues and provide effective troubleshooting solutions.
- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse engineering team.
- Good planning, organizational, and project management skills.
- Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office, maintenance management systems (CMMS), and hotel systems.
- Willing to work flexible hours, weekends, and public holidays when required.
