Job Description

Purpose of Job

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leading the organisation's overall marketing, branding, communications, youth outreach and public engagement strategies. The role is accountable for driving strong brand positioning, strategic communications and integrated engagement initiatives that enhance organisational visibility, strengthen stakeholder trust, support fundraising, advocacy outcomes and build a sustainable pipeline of youth engagement to advance the organisation's mission and long-term strategic priorities.

This position provides strategic leadership to the Marketing and Communications function, overseeing the development and execution of integrated campaigns, media relations, digital ecosystems, content strategy and brand governance. It also steers a coherent youth engagement strategy by leveraging partnerships, digital platforms and targeted outreach to cultivate future conservation leaders, advocates and supporters while embedding youth perspectives into the organisation's broader engagement and influence agenda.

  12. Integration of youth voice and perspectives into campaigns, advocacy initiatives and organisational positioning.

Major Activities

1) Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and lead the overall marketing and communications strategy in alignment with the organisation's vision, mission and business objectives.
  • Provide strategic direction on brand positioning, public messaging, campaigns and stakeholder engagement.
  • Advise senior leadership on communication priorities, reputational risks and opportunities to strengthen public profile and influence.
  • Ensure all marketing and communication initiatives support organisational growth, fundraising, partnerships, advocacy and programme outcomes.

2) Brand Management

  • Safeguard and strengthen the organisation's brand identity, values, tone and visual consistency across all channels.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of brand guidelines and ensure adherence organisation-wide.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance brand awareness, audience trust and market relevance.

3) Marketing and Campaign Management

  • Lead the planning and execution of integrated marketing campaigns across digital, print, social media, events and other platforms.
  • Monitor campaign performance and optimise strategies to improve reach, engagement and return on investment.
  • Identify market trends, audience insights and emerging opportunities to improve campaign effectiveness and relevance.
  • Work closely with internal teams to promote organisational initiatives, programmes, products, services and impact stories.

4) Corporate Communications and Media Relations

  • Oversee the organisation's internal and external communication strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media, partners, agencies and relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead the preparation of press releases, speeches, key messages, reports, announcements and high-level communication materials.
  • Act as a key communications advisor during crisis communications and reputational management situations.

5) Digital and Content Leadership

  • Oversee digital communication channels including website, email marketing, social media and other online platforms.
  • Ensure high-quality, audience-focused and brand-aligned content is developed consistently.
  • Drive innovation in storytelling, audience engagement and digital visibility.
  • Monitor communication analytics and digital metrics to assess performance and inform decision-making.

6) Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with internal departments, external partners, donors, sponsors, agencies and vendors to ensure cohesive communication efforts.
  • Support leadership in building strong relationships with key stakeholders through strategic communication and engagement initiatives.
  • Represent the organisation in relevant meetings, forums, events and public-facing engagements as required.

7) People Leadership and Budget Management

  • Lead, manage, mentor and develop the Marketing and Communications team to ensure high performance and continuous capability building.
  • Foster a collaborative, creative and accountable working culture within the team.
  • Manage departmental budget, resources, agency relationships and procurement processes efficiently and responsibly.
  • Ensure timely reporting, planning and evaluation of departmental priorities and performance.

8) Youth Engagement Strategy

  • Design and drive the Youth Engagement Strategy, ensuring alignment with brand, communications, advocacy and fundraising goals
  • Oversee the development of youth-centric campaigns and content, leveraging digital and social platforms to maximise reach and engagement
  • Identify and implement innovative engagement approaches
  • Track, analyse and report on youth engagement performance metrics, ensuring continuous improvement and impact measurement
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to embed youth engagement across conservation programmes, fundraising initiatives and advocacy efforts

Specifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, Media Studies or related field.
  2. A Master's Degree is an added advantage.
  3. Minimum 10–15 years of relevant experience in marketing, branding, corporate communications or public relations.
  4. At least 5 years in a senior leadership or management role. With proven track of strong leadership and people management capability.
  5. Proven experience in developing and leading strategic marketing and communication plans.
  6. Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
  7. Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  8. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
  10. Experience in crisis communication and reputational risk management.
  11. Data-driven mindset with the ability to interpret analytics and campaign performance.
  12. High level of integrity, professionalism and sound judgement.
  13. Resilient and adaptable in managing changing priorities.

Salary Range

RM10,000 - RM15,000
