About the Role
Hyatt Regency, The Penang Waterfront is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Director of Sales & Marketing to lead the hotel's overall commercial strategy, with a strong focus on driving Corporate, MICE, and Group business. The successful candidate will be responsible for maximising revenue performance, strengthening market positioning, and leading a high-performing commercial team.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Strategy & Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute strategic sales and marketing plans to maximise revenue, market share and profitability.
- Lead the hotel's commercial functions, including Sales, Marketing, Revenue Management and Public Relations.
- Establish annual budgets, business plans, forecasts and commercial objectives aligned with ownership expectations.
Corporate & MICE Business Development
- Drive market penetration and revenue growth across Corporate, Government, MICE, Group and Association segments.
- Identify, secure and develop strategic partnerships with multinational corporations, government agencies, event organisers, PCOs, travel partners and key industry stakeholders.
- Position the hotel as a preferred destination for meetings, conferences, incentive groups and corporate events.
- Lead negotiations for major corporate accounts and large-scale MICE opportunities.
- Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline and implement proactive account management strategies.
Marketing & Brand Positioning
- Develop integrated marketing and promotional strategies to strengthen brand awareness and commercial positioning.
- Oversee digital marketing, public relations, social media and reputation management initiatives.
- Ensure brand standards are consistently maintained in accordance with Hyatt guidelines.
Market Intelligence & Revenue Optimisation
- Analyse market trends, competitor activities and business intelligence to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Work closely with Revenue Management to optimise pricing, segmentation and channel performance.
- Monitor commercial performance and implement corrective strategies where required.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing commercial team.
- Foster a collaborative, results-oriented and customer-centric culture.
- Drive associate engagement, performance management and succession planning initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Marketing or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8-10 years of progressive commercial leadership experience in the hospitality industry, with at least 3 years in a senior sales leadership role.
- Demonstrated success in Corporate and MICE sales, account management and business development within an upscale or luxury hotel environment.
- Strong commercial acumen, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building abilities.
