Job Description

Equalenergie Sdn Bhd (EEMY) is seeking a Director, Solutions & Technology to serve as the senior technical and presales bridge between the MD, the delivery team, and key internal and external stakeholders. This is a newly created strategic role, designed to unblock the MD from presales and cross-entity coordination so that EEMY can scale its activities across all three tracks: Direct Accounts, Internal Equalbase Pipeline, and Strategic Accounts including Data Centres.

The role is not a pure engineering role. It requires the ability to translate complex technical and solution architectures into clear presales language, lead client-facing presales engagements, own the internal project pipeline, and serve as EEMY's dedicated coordination point with Equalenergie Holdings (EEH). The role is Malaysia-based and will collaborate remotely with key Holding Co stakeholders as required. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Battery Storage and Energy Solutions (EEH Singapore), the Senior Energy Advisor (EEMY), and the Group Director (EEH and EEMY) on a regular basis.

Key Responsibilities

1. Presales and Solution Development

  • Lead all client-facing presales engagements for internal customers, DC operators, GLC targets, and strategic accounts.
  • Translate solution architecture, including solar PV, BESS, CRESS, and ATAP frameworks, into compelling presales proposals and technical narratives.
  • Own the innovation and solution narrative for EEMY across all three tracks.
  • Attend and lead technical presales sessions at C-suite and board level independently, without requiring MD presence.
  • Support feasibility studies, technical due diligence, and proposal development for major bids and tenders.

2. Internal Projects Ownership

  • Take full ownership of the Equalbase internal pipeline as the dedicated Track lead, allowing the BD team to focus entirely on external pipeline generation.
  • Serve as the single accountable owner for all Equalbase, EEH, and EEMY internal project coordination.
  • Ensure the Projects and Engineering team has clear direction on delivery execution and that delivery aligns with project commitments.
  • Manage project handoffs from presales through to execution with full continuity and accountability.

3. Cross-Entity Technical Coordination

  • Serve as EEMY's dedicated technical and presales counterpart for EEH, collaborating remotely with HoldingCo stakeholders as required.
  • Work closely with the Director of Battery Storage and Energy Solutions (EEH Singapore) on technical alignment, battery storage, and energy solutions across the group.
  • Sync regularly with the Group Director (EEH and EEMY) on internal project progress, priorities, and group-level technical matters.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Energy Advisor (EEMY) on regulatory positioning, energy policy, and licensing matters relevant to project development.

4. Supplier and Contractor Engagement

  • Manage technical and commercial relationships with EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, and technology partners, including Mandarin-speaking suppliers and Chinese manufacturers.
  • Lead technical vendor evaluations, equipment specifications, and procurement support for major projects.
  • Support investor, lender, and partner technical due diligence processes as required.

5. Engineering and Technical Oversight

  • Review engineering designs, EPC submissions, equipment specifications, grid connection requirements, and technical studies.
  • Oversee construction, testing, and commissioning activities in coordination with the Head of Projects and Engineering and the project team.
  • Ensure all projects meet EEMY technical standards, Malaysian regulatory requirements, and international best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance on BESS integration, EMS systems, and grid compliance matters.

6. Digital Energy and Smart Solutions

  • Serve as the senior sponsor and strategic architect of EEMY's digital energy capability; defining the roadmap, evaluating platforms and partners, and orchestrating execution through internal and external technology resources.
  • Oversee the integration of simulation and modelling tools for presales; including system design, energy yield simulation, and financial modelling platforms; to strengthen proposal quality and client confidence.
  • Drive the adoption of post-implementation monitoring and performance management platforms, including SCADA, EMS, IoT-enabled smart sensors, smart metering, and real-time asset performance dashboards.
  • Lead the development of data-driven performance optimisation capabilities; leveraging AI-assisted analytics, predictive maintenance, energy yield optimisation, carbon credit tracking, and ESG performance reporting to generate measurable value for clients and EEMY.
  • Work closely with the internal Business Intelligence function and external technology partners to build EEMY's smart solutions capability in a lean, scalable manner.
  • Evaluate and recommend technology platforms, software tools, and strategic partnerships that align with EEMY's commercial model and client commitments across all project phases.

7. Reporting and Internal Communication

  • Provide regular progress updates to the MD on solutions, presales, and Track pipeline status.
  • Prepare technical and commercial inputs for board presentations, investor materials, and bid submissions.
  • Build and maintain EEMY's technical knowledge base and lessons-learned repository across projects.

Qualifications and Requirements

Academic and Professional Credentials

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Renewable Energy Engineering from a recognised university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) is an advantage.
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in solar PV engineering, solutions development, presales, or technical management within the Malaysian and regional energy sector.
  • Proven track record in utility-scale solar PV projects; BESS experience is strongly preferred.

Technical and Industry Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of Malaysia's energy regulatory landscape including Suruhanjaya Tenaga, SEDA, TNB grid connection processes, LSS, NEM, ATAP, CRESS, and related frameworks.
  • SEDA Grid-Connected Photovoltaic (GCPV) Systems Design or Installation competency certification is an advantage.
  • Experience with project financing, bankability analysis, and technical due diligence for large-scale energy projects.
  • Familiarity with BESS technologies, EMS integration, and grid compliance requirements.

Presales and Leadership Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead presales engagements and deliver technical proposals at C-suite and board level.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and coordinating with multinational stakeholders, including remote collaboration across Singapore, Malaysia, and the broader region.
  • Strong technical acumen: able to connect engineering solutions to business outcomes, financial models, and strategic narratives.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a lean, fast-moving organisation.

Digital Energy and Technology Awareness

  • Strategic understanding of the digital energy technology landscape: knows what good looks like and can evaluate platforms, vendors, and partners with confidence.
  • Familiarity with energy simulation and modelling tools such as PVSyst, HOMER, or equivalent platforms used in presales and feasibility work.
  • Understanding of post-implementation technology stacks including SCADA, EMS, IoT sensor networks, smart metering, and asset performance monitoring systems.
  • Awareness of AI-driven analytics, predictive maintenance, energy optimisation, and ESG reporting tools as applied in the renewable energy sector.
  • Proven ability to define a digital roadmap and orchestrate execution through a lean combination of internal staff and external technology partners: without building large internal teams.

Note: Hands-on platform expertise is an advantage but not a prerequisite. What is essential is the strategic vision and the ability to build and lead the right resources around a clear digital agenda.

Language Requirements

  • Fluent in English — written and spoken, to a professional and executive standard. Essential.
  • Proficient in Bahasa Malaysia. Essential.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin (written and spoken) is preferred. Given EEMY's current supplier and technology partner landscape, the ability to communicate in Mandarin is a practical advantage in coordinating with certain manufacturers, contractors, and technology partners.
