A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A JUNIOR DESIGN ASSOCIATE
We are seeking a detail-oriented Drafter who supports the Design & Expansion team in developing space planning layouts, test fits, and design documentation for retail and managed office solutions. The role assists senior designers in translating spatial requirements into functional layouts while supporting interior design coordination and project documentation.
This role is ideal for an early-career designer looking to gain experience in workplace design, space planning, and commercial project development while gaining deep insight into commercial project delivery and large-scale interior rollouts.
Role And Responsibilities
Space Planning & Test Fits
- Assist in preparing layout test fits for retail and managed office solutions
- Ability to interpret design briefs and translate requirements into spatial layouts
- Test-Fit Analysis: Supporting design teams in evaluating spatial feasibility and efficiency
- Supporting spatial planning decisions, including seat count optimisation, circulation flow, and zoning of collaboration vs work areas
- Updating of layouts based on internal reviews and stakeholder feedback
- Supporting the preparation of workplace test fits, including workstation planning, meeting room distribution, and circulation layouts
- Following company design standards and workplace planning guidelines
Design Documentation
- Preparing basic CAD drawings and layout documentation
- Assist with updating drawing sets and revisions
- Supporting the preparation of presentation layouts for internal and client use
- Maintain organised drawing files and documentation
- Assisting with tracking revisions and project updates
Design Support
- Support the Design Lead and Interior Designer in design development tasks
- Assist with workspace planning, layouts and furniture configuration
- Help prepare moodboards, precedent images, and reference material
Requirements
- University degree or Technical Diploma in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related technical drafting discipline
- 1 - 2 years of professional experience focusing on technical documentation for commercial office, retail, or hospitality projects
- Basic proficiency in AutoCAD is required; skills in SketchUp are an added benefit, and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace are essential
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to thrive under pressure and find technical solutions to design challenges in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication and time management skills
- Fluent in English
- Adaptability and willingness to learn
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
