Position Summary

The EHS Associate Director for Operational Data Centers is responsible for overseeing and elevating Environmental, Health, and Safety performance across all live data center facilities. This role ensures adherence to global EHS standards, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies, while driving a proactive safety culture, operational risk reduction, and continuous improvement. The position partners closely with Facility Operations, Security, Engineering, and Regional EHS leads to maintain safe, compliant, and resilient operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Leadership & Governance

  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs across operational data center environments.
  • Develop, communicate, and enforce corporate EHS policies, operational minimum requirements, and safe work procedures.
  • Ensure alignment with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, corporate ESG commitments, and DayOne EHS Management System requirements.
  • Provide strategic EHS guidance to facility operations and senior leadership.

Operational Safety Management

  • Oversee risk assessments, HIRARC, change management reviews, and operational hazard controls for all critical activities (LOTO, electrical work, hot work, confined space, working at height, chemical handling, etc.).
  • Conduct routine site audits, inspections, and compliance reviews to ensure operational adherence to statutory regulations and internal standards.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis; drive corrective and preventive actions and ensure lesson-sharing across regions.

Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity

  • Maintain and improve emergency response plans for all operational data centers, including fire, medical emergencies, power failure, environmental releases, and natural disasters.
  • Coordinate emergency drills, readiness exercises, and training with internal teams and local authorities.
  • Serve as a key EHS point of contact for emergency response and crisis communication.

Environmental Compliance & Sustainability

  • Oversee environmental programs including waste management, chemical management, energy/water stewardship, air emissions compliance, spill prevention, and environmental monitoring aligned with local regulatory requirements.
  • Support execution of ESG initiatives and reporting focused on energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and environmental protection.

Training & Competency Development

  • Develop and implement EHS training programs for facility personnel, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure competency in critical EHS topics such as electrical safety, LOTO, emergency response, and safe maintenance practices.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track, analyze, and report EHS performance metrics and KPIs for operational sites.
  • Identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement and recommend strategic actions.
  • Support audits, assessments, and corporate EHS reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of EHS leadership experience in operational data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial plants, or similar high-risk operational environments.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, NEBOSH, WSHO, ISO Lead Auditor) strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of operational EHS requirements, regulatory frameworks, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel across regional data center sites.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
