Job Description
Microchip AES Design team in Penang is looking for motivated Physical Design Engineers to implement RTL2GDSII for larger SOCs. As a member of Physical Design team, you will be responsible for place and route, timing closure and physical verification checks for multiple blocks and sub-systems.
Location: Penang, Malaysia
Job Responsibilities:
The employee will be responsible for end-to-end Physical Design ownership of multiple large and complex sub-systems in advanced process nodes ranging from 16nm down to 3nm. The role demands strong technical ownership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle complex design and flow challenges independently.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Complete Physical Design implementation including:
- Floorplanning
- Place & Route
- Clock Tree Synthesis (CTS)
- Timing closure using industry-standard tools such as Cadence Innovus and Synopsys ICC2.
- Drive PPA (Power, Performance, Area) optimization across block and sub-system designs.
- Physical verification (DRC/LVS) and IP integration at block and top level.
- Ownership of Physical Design flow and methodology, including continuous improvement.
- Perform and analyze IR drop and EM (Electromigration) checks to ensure design reliability.
- Apply metric-driven design techniques to enable first-pass silicon success.
- Drive flow, methodology development, and automation to improve productivity and quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including RTL, Synthesis, STA, CAD, and Signoff teams.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Education:
- B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech in Electronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of STA concepts, including setup/hold timing, clock uncertainties, and constraints.
- Hands-on experience with Place & Route tools (Innovus / ICC2).
- Solid scripting skills in one or more languages:
- Perl, TCL, Python, Shell (preferred)
- Basic understanding of RTL design (Verilog / VHDL).
- Good knowledge of logic synthesis concepts and handoff requirements.
- Familiarity with Physical Design signoff requirements and flows.
Prompt Engineering & AI-Assisted Productivity (Added Requirement):
- Ability to effectively use prompt engineering techniques to:
- Track, search, and analyze Physical Design issues.
- Improve debugging efficiency for timing, DRC, IR/EM, and P&R-related challenges.
- Assist in script development, optimization, and automation.
- Summarize large reports and logs for faster decision-making.
- Comfortable leveraging AI tools to enhance design productivity, analysis, and methodology development.
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work independently under local project lead or supervisor mentorship.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
