Job Description

Role Overview

The EHS Assistant Manager is accountable for planning, executing, and sustaining effective Environment, Health, Safety, and Security (HSSE) practices across company operations. This position ensures full regulatory compliance, supports operational risk reduction, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to maintain a safe, legally compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace. The role also manages site security controls and serves as the designated competent person for scheduled waste and environmental matters.

Key Accountabilities

1. EHS Governance & Regulatory Compliance

  • Coordinate and manage EHS activities for all operating sites under Stenta Films (M) Sdn Bhd and Stenta Multifilms Sdn Bhd.
  • Establish, review, and enforce EHS policies, procedures, and work instructions aligned with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and applicable legal requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and directives issued by DOSH, DOE, and other relevant authorities.
  • Conduct workplace risk evaluations, hazard identification, and safety inspections, ensuring appropriate control measures are implemented and tracked.
  • Execute routine EHS audits and site inspections to verify operational compliance and identify improvement opportunities.

2. Incident Control & Performance Monitoring

  • Lead investigation of workplace accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
  • Compile EHS metrics, trend analyses, and compliance updates for management review.
  • Recommend and implement corrective, preventive, and improvement initiatives to strengthen EHS performance.

3. Training, Awareness & Emergency Preparedness

  • Deliver EHS orientation and refresher programs to employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Organise and assess emergency response exercises such as fire evacuation drills and chemical spill simulations.
  • Promote EHS awareness initiatives to reinforce compliance and safe work behaviours across all levels.

4. Security & Environmental Management

  • Supervise site security measures, including access control and asset protection.
  • Act as the company's appointed CEPSWAM, managing scheduled waste compliance and liaising with environmental authorities.
  • Monitor environmental aspects including waste handling, emissions, and pollution prevention programs.

5. Workplace Standards, GMP & System Support

  • Monitor and enforce workplace hygiene, housekeeping, and cleanliness standards across production and common areas.
  • Ensure availability, correct usage, and maintenance of PPE in accordance with internal standards.
  • Support operational compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Food Safety Management System (FSMS) requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Studies, Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant EHS experience within a manufacturing environment (plastics or packaging industry preferred).
  • Sound working knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and Malaysian EHS regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal, training, and reporting skills.
  • Able to work across multiple sites and respond to operational requirements beyond normal office hours when required.

Mandatory Certifications

  • Registered Safety & Health Officer (SHO) Green Book holder with DOSH under OSH (Safety and Health Officer) Regulations 1997.
  • Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management (CEPSWAM)under Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005, or commitment to obtain certification within the agreed timeframe.
