The group you'll be a part of
Office of the CTO, Environmental, Social, and Governance team
The impact you'll make
We are seeking a Sustainability Engineer to support the development and execution of our Asia-Pacific (APAC) renewable energy and sustainable facilities strategy. This role will focus on advancing long-term renewable electricity goals, supporting onsite solar deployment, aligning new construction projects with our sustainability and net zero goals, and driving sustainability integration across facilities operations.
The ideal candidate combines technical facilities engineering expertise, project execution capability, and sustainability acumen, with experience working across diverse regulatory and infrastructure environments in Asia.
This role will partner closely with ESG, Global Workplace Services (GWS), EHS, and regional site teams to translate corporate climate goals into practical, site-level implementation.
What You'll Do
APAC Renewable Energy Strategy Execution
- Support development and implementation of a regional renewable energy strategy, including onsite solar, power purchase agreements, and other procurement mechanisms, tailored to local market conditions.
- Conduct site-level feasibility assessments for renewable energy projects (e.g., rooftop solar, ground-mounted PV, storage integration).
- Analyze energy demand, load profiles, and regulatory constraints to identify optimal deployment pathways.
- Review technical specifications, system design (e.g., PV sizing, interconnection), and performance expectations.
- Monitor operational performance and identify optimization opportunities post-installation.
- Track progress toward renewable electricity and Scope 2 goals across APAC sites.
Sustainable Construction & New Build Integration
- Partner with design, construction, and facilities teams to embed sustainability requirements into new buildings and major retrofits across our APAC sites.
- Ensure alignment with internal sustainable construction guidelines (e.g., energy efficiency, electrification, renewable readiness).
- Support implementation of green building certifications (e.g., LEED, local standards such as Green Mark where applicable).
- Advise on low-carbon materials, electrification strategies, and energy-efficient system design.
Facilities Sustainability Programs & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with site facilities teams to identify and implement energy efficiency and sustainability improvements across existing operations.
- Lead or support energy audits, performance assessments, and environmental impact evaluations.
- Develop and track KPIs related to energy, carbon, water, and waste performance.
- Support adoption of best practices in sustainable operations across diverse APAC facilities.
- Build business cases (ROI, carbon abatement, cost savings) for facility-level sustainability projects.
- Collaborate with Finance and ESG teams to prioritize and track investment performance.
- Identify high-impact, scalable projects for funding across APAC sites.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Governance
- Act as a technical liaison between ESG, facilities, construction, and regional site teams.
- Support vendor and partner engagement, including renewable energy developers and engineering firms.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, internal standards, and corporate sustainability commitments.
- Contribute to reporting, dashboards, and executive updates on program progress.
- Participate in industry forums, conferences, and related events
Who We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, or Facilities Engineering (or related field).
- 8-12 years of experience in facilities engineering, renewable energy, or sustainability engineering roles.
- Experience supporting energy projects such as solar PV, energy efficiency, or building systems optimization.
- Working knowledge of facility systems (HVAC, electrical, utilities) and energy management practices.
- Strong project management and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Ability to travel up to 25% per month and overlap with U.S. west coast business hours 2-3 hours per day
- Ability to speak fluent English
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in APAC markets (e.g., Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, India, China).
- Familiarity with renewable energy procurement models (PPAs, green tariffs, I-RECs).
- Experience supporting construction or greenfield site development.
- Certifications such as LEED, CEM, or solar PV-related credentials.
- Experience building financial/business cases for capital projects.
