Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Finance & Strategy Manager is responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of finance and accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, effective cash flow management, and supporting Management in financial planning, investment evaluation, and strategic decision-making to drive sustainable business growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

> Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and manage the Finance & Accounts team to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Coach, guide, and develop team members in line with organisational goals and succession planning.
  • Conduct performance reviews of direct reports on a six (6) monthly basis.
  • Carry out duties and assignments as directed by Management.

> Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and management reports.
  • Oversee monthly and annual closing of accounts.
  • Maintain complete and accurate general ledger and accounting records.
  • Prepare and submit monthly departmental and operational reports to the CEO.
  • Advise Management on appropriate accounting treatments including accruals, provisions, depreciation, and capitalization.

> Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Control

  • Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections in collaboration with the CEO.
  • Establish cost centres and ensure proper allocation of costs and expenses.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and implement cost control measures.
  • Ensure adequate cash flow to meet operational and business requirements.
  • Optimize utilization of funds to support the company's objectives.

> Internal Control & Governance

  • Establish, implement, and maintain effective internal control policies and procedures.
  • Strengthen the control environment to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and risk management.
  • Safeguard company funds and assets in accordance with authority limits approved by the Board of Directors.

> Compliance & Statutory Matters (Malaysia)

  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS)
  • Income Tax Act, SST/GST (if applicable)
  • Companies Act 2016
  • Bank Negara Malaysia requirements (where applicable)
  • Coordinate and manage annual statutory and internal audit processes.
  • Liaise with auditors, tax agents, bankers, insurance providers, and government authorities (e.g. LHDN, SSM).

>Investment & Strategic Planning

  • Support Management in evaluating investment proposals, capital expenditures (CAPEX), and business expansion initiatives.
  • Perform financial modelling, feasibility studies, ROI, IRR, and NPV analyses for new investments and strategic projects.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support long-term business strategy and sustainability.
  • Monitor and review the financial performance of approved investments against projected returns.
  • Assist Management in strategic planning, business restructuring, cost optimisation, and growth initiatives.
  • Support the preparation of financial papers and presentations for Management and Board review (where applicable).

>Treasury & Banking

  • Liaise with bankers on banking facilities, documentation, and compliance matters.
  • Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Manage payment processes including cheque issuance and electronic payments in accordance with approved authority limits.

>Ad-hoc & Special Projects

  • Handle finance-related projects, strategic initiatives, and ad-hoc assignments as required by Management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification (ACCA / CPA / CIMA / MIA) is preferred.
  • Minimum 58 years of relevant finance and accounting experience, with at least 23 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysian statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Exposure to investment analysis, business planning, or strategic projects is an added advantage.
