You will act as the primary owner of company financials, working closely with the CEO and cross-functional leaders, while managing and developing both onshore and offshore accounting team members. This role blends controller-level ownership with deep operational involvement across AR, AP, close, forecasting, tax support, and systems.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Accounting Ownership

  • Oversee invoicing, collections, vendor payments, and cash flow tracking
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end close (within 5 business days)

Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Prepare and issue invoices; ensure accuracy of PO details, formats, and customer data
  • Maintain AR aging, monitor overdue balances, and lead collection efforts
  • Partner with Sales and Operations to validate billing data
  • Provide AR insights to support cash forecasting

Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Process vendor bills and payments accurately and on schedule
  • Coordinate international vendor payments
  • Lead 1099 filings for contractors

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Own the month-end close process across all entities
  • Review and approve reconciliations (bank, credit cards, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, deferred revenue)
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and Actual vs Budget variance analysis
  • Present financial insights, risks, and recommendations to leadership

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Management

  • Build and maintain weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts
  • Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecast refreshes
  • Support leadership with forward-looking financial planning

Tax & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and US tax requirements
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on IRS filings, franchise/state taxes, and payroll taxes
  • Maintain sales tax tracking and support multi-state filings
  • Support year-end tax and audit processes

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Review, streamline, and document finance workflows (e.g. Sales-to-Cash)
  • Strengthen internal controls and improve efficiency
  • Support system enhancements (billing tools, revenue systems, ERP/accounting upgrades)
  • Ensure consistent documentation of all finance processes

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Manage, train, and review work of junior and data-entry accountants (onshore & offshore)
  • Act as escalation point for accounting, payroll, and tax issues
  • Partner closely with CEO, Sales, Operations, and teaching teams
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance management

Ad-Hoc & Executive Support

  • Respond quickly to urgent financial or operational requests
  • Support rapid growth initiatives with sound financial guidance

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • At least 2-3 years of leadership/people management experience
  • Strong hands-on experience across full-cycle accounting (AR, AP, close, reporting, taxes)
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP and US-based accounting operations
  • Demonstrated experience with US tax compliance (IRS, payroll, franchise/state taxes)
  • Proven ability to improve processes and implement scalable workflows
  • Experience managing at least one direct report (onshore or offshore)
