Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Country CFO and functionally to the Country General Manager and the Regional Office Financial Control Department, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing all finance functions (AR/AP/GL), banking, and taxation matters for the Malaysia and Singapore shipping agencies, domestic service entities, and carriers representation.

You will support local teams and management in resolving financial challenges, lead group project assignments, and provide accurate and timely financial insights to Management, Regional Office, and Head Office.

This role is open to individuals who are legally eligible to work in Malaysia, including Malaysian citizens or valid work permit holders.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial & Operational

  • Manage end-to-end accounting functions for shipping agencies, domestic entities, carriers representation, and sub-agents, including AP, AR, GL, and cost control, in collaboration with local finance, regional teams, and GBS.
  • Oversee monthly closing with GBS, ensuring timely bank reconciliation, clearing of AP/AR, and accurate accruals and prepayments.
  • Lead audit planning and ensure financial statements comply with local GAAP and international accounting standards.
  • Monitor core KPIs and financial performance.
  • Oversee AR collection, credit management, overdue %, and DSO performance.
  • Review monthly financial reporting to Management, Regional Office, and Head Office.
  • Perform variance and analytical reviews; identify risks and propose action plans.
  • Conduct weekly and short-term cash flow analysis and forecasting.
  • Lead the annual budget preparation and reporting process.
  • Act as the main liaison for statutory auditors and tax authorities to ensure timely completion of audits and tax matters.
  • Oversee cash and treasury activities, including bank liaison, overseas remittance processes, and currency exposure.
  • Work closely with finance teams and cross-functional departments to resolve financial issues.
  • Provide oversight to the domestic shipping entity's accounting and reporting process.
  • Lead financial statement audit reviews with external auditors.

Taxation & Compliance

  • Support Tax/GL team and coordinate with Regional Office on tax matters.
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax filings for all entities, branches, and carriers representation.
  • Lead IRB engagements, including tax audits, clearances, and coordination with tax consultants.
  • Stay up to date with local tax laws and ensure compliance.
  • Identify tax risks, propose mitigation strategies, and manage outstanding tax issues.

Planning & Project

  • Lead the SAP direct posting project for agency and carriers representation.
  • Support deregistration and tax ID clearance exercises for branches and carriers.
  • Develop financial and tax strategies and participate in key management decisions.
  • Build a high-performing Finance & Administration team through coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Foster strong working relationships across departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Support Management on ad-hoc assignments and projects.

Risk Management & Internal Control

  • Ensure strong internal controls across financial processes.
  • Lead internal audit reviews and support external audit engagements.
  • Stay updated on changes in banking, tax, and financial regulations.
  • Establish and monitor reliable control systems and accounting procedures aligned with Group policies and accounting standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strong relationships with auditors, bankers, and tax authorities.
  • Ensure proper accounting records and reporting to meet internal and external audit requirements.

JOB REQUIREMENT

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Tax; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years experience including 3+ years in a managerial role within the shipping or logistics industry.
  • Experience in audit or consultancy is an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluent in English.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in Oracle and SAP is a plus.
  • Strong business acumen, self-motivation, and ability to work independently.
  • Strong leadership, judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical ability.
