Job Description

[Overview]

The Finance Manager reporting directly to the General Manager, Malaysian entity will lead the finance function in a hands-on, build-from-scratch environment, covering FP&A, reporting, tax, and finance operations. The role will act as a key bridge between Southeast Asia operations and Japan HQ, ensuring high-quality financial insights, compliance, and scalable processes.

1. FP&A / Business Performance Management

  1. Lead annual budget, rolling forecast, and mid-term planning
  2. Monitor financial performance and provide variance analysis and insights
  3. Develop financial models and scenario analysis (pricing, market entry, cost structure)
  4. Support decision-making with clear, actionable recommendations
  5. Prepare management reports for regional leadership and Japan HQ

2. Business Partnering & HQ Communication

  1. Partner with regional commercial teams across Southeast Asia markets
  2. Act as primary finance interface with Japan HQ (monthly reporting, planning, ad hoc analysis)
  3. Translate business activities into financial implications
  4. Support cross-border alignment on strategy and performance

3. Financial Reporting & Control

  1. Establish and manage monthly closing and reporting processes
  2. Ensure compliance with applicable standards (IFRS for Group reporting / MFRS for Statutory accounting)
  3. Manage outsourced accounting providers while driving the gradual transition to in-house accounting functions
  4. Maintain internal control environment appropriate for a small organization

4. Tax & Compliance (Southeast Asia Focus)

  1. Manage corporate tax, indirect tax (e.g., SST/GST/VAT), and transfer pricing
  2. Ensure compliance with Malaysian and regional tax requirements
  3. Coordinate with external tax advisors and Japan HQ
  4. Support TP documentation and intercompany transaction structuring

5. Finance Operations & Systems (Build Phase)

  1. Implement finance systems (accounting, expense management, reporting tools)
  2. Select and manage cloud-based, cost-efficient solutions
  3. Establish scalable finance processes for a growing organization
  4. Oversee AP/AR, treasury, and cash management

6. Team Building & Management

  1. Gradually hire and manage finance staff (e.g., accounting assistant) based on the manager's assessment during the initial operational phase
  2. Provide coaching and establish team structure as business grows
  3. Build a high-performing and scalable finance function

MUST TO HAVE:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field

Minimum 7 years of relevant finance experience

Minimum 3 years finance experience in Consumer industry

Strong FP&A and business partnering experience

Experience working with external service providers (accounting/tax)

Experience communicating with overseas HQ

Experience handling wide range of tasks
