Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Fuzhou OPI/VRI Interpreter at Kalamcx. The interpreter will provide real-time over-the-phone (OPI) and video remote interpretation (VRI) between Fuzhou and English, accurately conveying meaning, tone, and intent for customers in various industries. Daily tasks include answering inbound interpretation requests, managing video and phone sessions, and adhering to confidentiality and professional codes of conduct. The role involves following client-specific guidelines, documenting essential session details when required, and escalating issues according to established procedures. The interpreter will collaborate with supervisors and quality teams to continuously improve language accuracy, call handling, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Fuzhou and English, with the ability to interpret accurately and fluently in both directions.
  • Demonstrated experience in consecutive interpretation, ideally in OPI and/or VRI environments is a plus.
  • Excellent listening, note-taking, and memory skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Clear, professional verbal communication skills and strong telephone and video presence.
  • Ability to remain impartial, neutral, and respectful while handling sensitive or complex conversations.
  • Reliable remote work setup, including a quiet workspace, stable high-speed internet connection, and suitable headset/webcam.
  • Familiarity with basic computer tools, call platforms, and video conferencing software.
  • High level of professionalism, punctuality, and time management; able to handle back-to-back calls and shifting priorities.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, data privacy, and adherence to client and company policies.
  • Previous BPO, contact center, healthcare, legal, or social services interpretation experience is an advantage.
  • Relevant certification or formal training in interpretation or linguistics is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education preferred.
