Job SummaryAs an FX Artist, you will bridge the gap between artistic vision and technical execution. You are responsible for designing and simulating complex natural phenomenafrom large-scale destruction and fluid dynamics to subtle atmospheric effectsthat ground our stories in reality. Working within a collaborative environment, you will apply high-level FX setups across diverse shots, ensuring visual consistency and technical efficiency while pushing the boundaries of what's possible on screen.
Key Responsibilities- Creative Simulation: Design and execute high-end procedural animations, dynamic simulations (RBD, Pyro, Fluids), and particle systems using Houdini.
- Shot Execution: Collaborate with FX Leads and TDs to manage complex shots, ensuring all elements meet the creative brief and maintain a high standard of timing, scale, and physical accuracy.
- Pipeline Integration: Navigate and contribute to the FX pipeline, utilizing upstream data efficiently and working with proprietary tools to streamline the shot-to-render workflow.
- Rendering & Compositing: Light and render FX elements, providing slap-comps (typically in Nuke) to demonstrate how FX integrate with live-action or CG environments.
- Iterative Excellence: Interpret and implement creative feedback from Supervisors with agility, maintaining a proactive approach to troubleshooting and visual refinement.
- Innovation: Stay at the forefront of industry trends, exploring new techniques in Vex, Python, or OpenVDB to automate workflows and enhance visual quality.
- Mentorship: Contribute to a culture of knowledge-sharing by documenting workflows and supporting junior artists in the team.
Required Skills & Qualifications- Proven Experience: A strong reel demonstrating high-end CG/VFX work, specifically focused on photo-realistic simulations and artistic composition.
- Software Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of SideFX Houdini is essential. Familiarity with Maya, Katana, or Solaris is a significant advantage.
- Technical Literacy: A deep understanding of the VFX production pipeline, including data flow between departments (Layout, Animation, Lighting).
- The Artist's Eye: Exceptional sense of physical motion, weight, scale, and timing.
- Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex simulations and optimize scenes for render efficiency.
- Coding (Preferred): Proficiency in Python or VEX for tool creation and workflow automation.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset; you should thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
How to ApplyWe are looking for artists who are as passionate about the process as they are about the final frame. To apply, please follow these steps:
