Role Description General Manager

Paling Group is seeking a seasoned General Manager to assume a pivotal leadership role within the organisation. Based in Bintulu, this full-time, on-site position is intended for an executive who understands the unique responsibilities of leading within a family-owned enterprise, where stewardship, continuity, and trust are as important as performance and growth.

Reporting closely to the owners and senior leadership, the General Manager will be entrusted with translating the Group's vision, mission, and values into clear strategy, disciplined execution, and sustainable results across its diverse businesses. This role carries a long-term leadership mandate and is viewed as a potential CEO succession pathway for the right individual.

The General Manager will oversee group operations, guide strategic planning, and ensure that projects and business units consistently meet standards of quality, safety, profitability, and timeliness. The role requires a balanced leadercommercially astute, operationally grounded, and culturally alignedwho can strengthen client and stakeholder relationships while safeguarding the Group's reputation and legacy.

A core responsibility of this role is people leadership: nurturing a cohesive A-Team culture, developing future leaders, and reinforcing values-based governance, accountability, and ethical decision-making. The successful candidate will be expected to lead with humility, decisiveness, and respect for the organisation's history, while thoughtfully preparing it for future generations.

Qualifications & Leadership Profile

  • Extensive senior leadership experience managing complex, multi-sector operations within construction, property development, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated capability in enterprise leadership, including strategy execution, financial oversight, and organisational development.
  • Strong appreciation of family-owned business dynamics, including long-term stewardship, relationship management, and values-driven governance.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction and development operations, risk management, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven ability to build trust with owners, boards, employees, clients, and external partners.
  • A leadership style that is principled, people-focused, and accountable, with a strong commitment to safety, sustainability, and ethical conduct.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline; an advanced degree is an advantage.
  • Experience in a Group General Manager, Chief Operating Officer, or equivalent senior executive role is highly desirable.
