Global Trade Compliance, Manager

We're looking to add a Manager/ Senior Manager, Global Trade Compliance in Bayan Lepas, Penang. This position will lead trade compliance activities for the Group, serving as a primary interface with customers on export controls, customs, and global trade requirements. This position works closely with customers program teams, supply chain, and manufacturing operations to embed trade compliance into operational workflows and manage regulatory risk across jurisdictions.

Responsibilities as a Manager/Senior Manager, Global Trade Compliance:

Customer Interface & Program Support

• Serve as a compliance lead, working closely with customers to understand their requirements and processes and integrate these requirements into Venture's own processes.
• Support internal teams on product transfers between manufacturing sites or new product introductions from a trade compliance perspective.

Export Controls & Sanctions

• Determine licensing requirements and coordinate license usage consistent with customer responsibilities and contractual allocations.
• Manage restricted party screening and sanctions checks for customers, suppliers, and shipment parties across the supply chain.
• Advise internal teams on countryspecific manufacturing and shipment restrictions.

Customs Compliance

• Interpret and advise on import/export regulations including, where applicable, interpreting Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs) to assess dual-use controls.
• Knowledge on handling Customs Brokerage/Govt Agencies for shipment clearance purposes in various countries including Malaysia.
• Oversee customs valuation, tariff classification and country-of-origin determinations.
• Support duty optimization programs, including free-trade agreements, bonded warehouses and special customs regimes.
• Apply for necessary licenses and permits e.g. LMW license, STA permits, FTZ approval.

Risk Management

• Continuously monitor and interpret changes in the trade laws and regulations to identify and manage trade compliance risks.
• Design and maintain policies/procedures for trade compliance.
• Lead internal reviews related to potential trade compliance issues.
• Provide practical guidance during escalation scenarios involving customer demands and regulatory constraints.

CrossFunctional & Operational Integration

• Partner with Program Management, Planning, and Operations to integrate trade compliance into daytoday execution.
• Work with IT and Operations teams to maintain effective screening, classification, and recordkeeping systems.
• Deliver targeted trade compliance training for relevant employees in procurement, logistics, sales and operations.

What skills and experiences are we looking:

• Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business, or a related field
• Minimum 7 years of trade compliance experience, preferably in EMS or logistics environment
• Strong working knowledge of export controls, sanctions, and customs regulations relevant to electronics manufacturing (especially EAR, ITAR). Familiarity with Malaysia's Strategic Trade Act is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience interfacing directly with OEM customers on trade compliance responsibilities and risk allocation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Proficiency with denied party screening tools.
• Highly motivated individual who drives tasks without close supervision.
• Analytically minded with attention to detail.
• Clear and confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
