PhD Opportunity at INBIOSIS UKM [Oct 2026 intake - May-Aug application/RAship]
*Open to only candidates committed to enrolling in the PhD (Systems Biology) programme at INBIOSIS, UKM.
For self-funded students, the research project can be tailored according to interests.
Responsibilities
This exciting wet-lab project will involve an empirical study of bioreactor-based recombinant enzyme production, dried-yeast viability & vitality tests, formulation of neposin enzyme for gluten detoxification of flour dough, physico-chemical characterisation of treated dough, and formulation of optimal baking using bioengineered baker's yeast.
Qualifications
BSc/Master's Degree in Science / Biochemistry / Food Science, CGPA >3.67 for Fast-track PhD
Strong interests in molecular biology, industrial biotechnology, food science, and/or bakery
Diligent & determined to work independently on a research topic for 2-3 years
For international students: CEFR>=B2; TOEFL >=550 / IELTS >=6 with good scientific writing skills
The ideal candidate should have a solid background in molecular biology, experience in wet-lab techniques (pipetting, PCR, extraction, and enzyme activity assays), and a passion for food biotechnology/processing, especially bakery.

Monthly stipend of RM1800-2300 to help with tuition fees until 31 Jul 2027
