MAA Group Berhad is seeking an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to lead and strengthen the finance function of our hospitality business and its subsidiaries. This is a senior finance leadership role reporting directly and functionally to the Group Chief Financial Officer, while working closely with the Chief Executive Officer of the hospitality business on operational and commercial matters. The successful candidate will be employed by the Group's hospitality business and will oversee its finance team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the overall finance function and provide direction to the Finance Manager, accountants and finance personnel across the hospitality business, ensuring effective financial management, reporting controls and business support.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting in accordance with Group timelines and accounting policies.
- Prepare, review and/or oversee management accounts, consolidation schedules, budgets, forecasts, cash-flow reports and variance analyses.
- Strengthen financial controls, approval processes, reconciliations, segregation of duties and finance-related standard operating procedures.
- Maintain oversight of cash flow, working capital, creditor management, bank facilities and funding requirements.
- Ensure intercompany balances, related-party transactions, management fees, advances and funding flows are properly recorded, supported and reconciled.
- Review material journals, payments, revenue and receivables, capital expenditure, fixed assets, leases and other significant financial commitments.
- Coordinate external and internal audits, address audit queries and ensure that findings are resolved within the agreed timelines.
- Ensure compliance with statutory accounting, tax, SST and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Review existing finance systems, access controls, processes and reporting practices and implement the necessary improvements.
- Provide timely financial analysis and commercial support to the Chief Executive Officer and operating management.
- Escalate material financial, reporting, compliance or control concerns directly to the Group Chief Financial Officer.
- Monitor and analyse major operating costs, including payroll, utilities, food and beverage costs, procurement and other operating expenses, and drive initiatives to improve cost efficiency and operating margins.
- Work closely with operations to identify revenue leakage, cost inefficiencies and control weaknesses, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting qualification or membership such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, ICAEW or MIA is strongly preferred.
- At least 10 years of progressive finance experience, including a minimum of five years in a Financial Controller, Head of Finance or equivalent senior leadership role.
- Strong experience in multi-entity financial reporting, consolidation, audit, statutory compliance, cash-flow management and internal controls.
- Experience within hospitality, property management, leased-asset operations or a public-listed group would be an advantage.
- Sound knowledge of MFRS and Malaysian statutory and tax requirements.
- Strong ERP, Microsoft Excel and financial-analysis capabilities.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a finance team while managing demanding reporting deadlines.
- High level of integrity, independence and professional judgement, with the confidence to challenge and escalate concerns when required.
- Commercially aware, resilient and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced and demanding business environment.
