ONNEC is seeking a proactive and driven Health & Safety Officer (Travel needed) to support its operations across Kuala Lumpur/Johor Bahru. This site‑based role will coordinate, advise, and support all Health & Safety activities to ensure the company meets its obligations under local Malaysian legislation and internal standards. The position is responsible for establishing, managing, and monitoring H&S processes, training, communications, and systems to ensure full compliance across all operational environments.

The role will be based amongst several of our prestigious client sites - which can expect risks from both construction sites and data centres, with an expectation to conduct inspections, audits, and provide hands‑on HS support to project teams and management. Reporting into the Global HSE manager, the role will give weekly detailed summaries of key HS events on sites.

What you'll be doing as our Health & Safety Officer:

  • Ensure all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to, regularly reviewed, updated, and effectively communicated.
  • Ensure ONNEC meets inner country legislative requirements, and other relevant authorities.
  • Promote and drive health and safety culture, controls, and processes across all project sites within the APAC region.
  • Conduct regular project safety inspections and ensure identified non‑conformities are addressed and closed out promptly.
  • Ensure all incidents and accidents are fully investigated, root causes identified, corrective actions implemented, and reports shared with relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of H&S documentation, audits, training, permits, and incident reports.
  • Review, update, and localise company H&S policies, procedures, and safe systems of work to ensure compliance with Malaysian regulations.
  • Maintain a strong and visible presence on customer sites, supporting and advising project and management teams on health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and coordinate a structured programme of H&S training across the region, including mandatory certifications.
  • Stay up to date with Malaysian health, safety, and welfare legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.
  • Prepare and deliver regular H&S performance reports to global HSE manager.
  • Participate in client and internal meetings to provide updates and insights on H&S matters.
  • Liaise with external parties such as insurers, regulatory bodies, training providers, and auditors.
  • Undertake any additional duties reasonably required by management.

What we're looking for in our Health & Safety Officer:

  • NEBOSH level 6 and ideally a minimum technical membership in IOSH, aiming or on the journey towards chartered.
  • Professional, confidential, and able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and time‑management abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Good working knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and quality practices, with the ability to interpret and communicate legislative requirements.
  • Possession of any region‑relevant qualifications.
  • Experience conducting H&S audits and preparing related reports.
  • Ability to deliver presentations and safety briefings to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct audits aligned with Malaysian safety legislation, industry standards, and company procedures.
  • Comfortable working within the construction and technical services environment.
  • Experience working within large multinational organisations is an advantage.
  • Flexibility for significant regional travel.
