Job Purpose
- Ensure the legal department functions effectively to support and enable the Group's purpose of delivering sustainable value creation and multiplier through responsible and impactful service delivery, by providing holistic, commercially-aligned legal solutions that facilitate business growth while safeguarding the Group's interests and reputation.
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Group Legal function, ensuring effective delivery of legal services, efficient resource utilisation, nurturing talents and consistent execution of legal strategies aligned with business needs, while escalating strategic risks and decisions to Head of Legal & Commercial Services, C-Suites and Senior Management.
Job Responsibilities
1. Legal Operations & Delivery
- Oversee daily legal advisory, contract review, and documentation across business units
- Ensure timely turnaround and service quality across Dispute Resolution, SPA and Corporate/Commercial & IP
- Manage allocation of work and prioritisation across teams
- Ensure accuracy, coverage and analytics of legal ops database so that all decisions are driven by data
2. Team Leadership
- Lead and supervise Head Units and Managers
- Drive performance management, KPIs and delivery targets
- Build operational capability across legal teams
3. Legal Risk Management
- Monitor litigation, disputes and key transactions
- Ensure proper tracking, reporting and escalation of risks
- Maintain legal databases and reporting systems
4. External Counsel & Cost Control
- Manage engagement of external lawyers
- Monitor legal spend and ensure budget discipline
- Execute negotiation of fee arrangements within approved frameworks
5. Process, SOP & Legal Ops Excellence
- Implement and improvise SOPs, Contract templates / precedent bank and Document management systems
- Drive efficiency initiatives (automation, standardisation)
6. Stakeholders Management
- Serve as primary operational interface with business units
- Ensure business teams receive practical, timely legal support
- Escalate sensitive, high-impact or strategic matters
7. Reporting
- Provide regular reports on: Dispute management, litigation, Transactions, Operational KPIs
- Highlight issues requiring escalation
8. Capacity Building
- Organise and conduct in-house training on legal matters, risk management and specialised areas of law.
- Lead, coach and motivate legal team to ensure high performance and delivery.
Education/ Professional Qualification
- Degree in Law (LLB, BA in Law), Certification of Legal Practice (CLP) (or its equivalent)
Professional Experience
- Barrister-at-law, advocate & solicitor, legal attorney.
