The Role
The Head of Business Development is responsible for driving sustainable business growth by developing and executing the company's commercial strategy, leading a high-performing sales organization, and expanding business opportunities across existing and new customers. Reporting to senior leadership, this role will be instrumental in delivering revenue and profitability targets while fostering a strong sales culture focused on customer value, innovation, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the annual sales and business development strategy, including sales plans, budgets, and growth initiatives to achieve revenue, profitability, and market share objectives.
- Drive new business acquisition while expanding strategic relationships within existing key accounts across targeted industry sectors.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing sales team through effective performance management, capability development, succession planning, and employee engagement.
- Monitor sales pipeline health, CRM discipline, forecasting accuracy, and key performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making and business planning.
- Collaborate closely with regional leadership and cross-functional teams to develop customer-focused supply chain solutions and strengthen service offerings.
- Manage sales performance to ensure achievement of revenue, gross profit, and profitability targets while maintaining customer credit compliance and budget accountability.
- Identify emerging market opportunities, competitive trends, and customer requirements to strengthen the company's market position and commercial competitiveness.
- Champion a customer-centric, high-performance culture that promotes accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, governance standards, health and safety requirements, and standardized sales processes.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across local, regional, and global functions to support strategic initiatives and long-term business success.
- Lead regular sales reviews, pipeline discussions, forecasting sessions, and strategic planning meetings to drive business performance and execution.
The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 7 years of successful sales leadership experience with a proven track record of consistently delivering commercial results.
- Strong experience within the international freight forwarding, transportation, contract logistics, or integrated supply chain industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in consultative and solution-based selling with the ability to develop value-added customer solutions.
- Strong commercial acumen with a solid understanding of financial performance, profitability management, and business planning.
- Good understanding of local economic conditions, international trade, financial markets, and global business practices.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and people development capabilities with experience managing high-performing sales teams.
- Strong analytical skills with experience managing CRM systems, sales pipelines, forecasting, and performance reporting.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Fluent in English; additional language capabilities will be an advantage.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for business.
