Head of Finance - Port & Terminals - Malaysia - APAC (Sabah)

Job Description

We are seeking a Head of Finance to lead the finance, accounting, procurement and insurance functions for our Sabah operations. Acting as a strategic business partner to senior leadership, you will drive financial performance, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency, while serving as the key liaison with tax authorities, financial institutions and other critical stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee end-to-end finance and accounting operations, including the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, budgets, forecasts and statutory reporting to Regional and Head Office.
  • Lead and manage the month-end close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, working papers and reconciliations in accordance with group guidelines.
  • Provide financial analysis, business models and decision support to the executive team, ensuring visibility on cost savings, risk mitigation and revenue growth opportunities.
  • Manage tax reporting and compliance, including GST/SST, VAT and corporate tax regulations in Malaysia, together with statutory, internal and external audit processes through to closure of findings.
  • Oversee procurement activities and supplier contracts, ensuring compliance with company procurement policies, approval authorities and governance requirements.
  • Manage the Company's insurance programme, including policy renewals, claims administration and liaison with insurers and brokers, ensuring adequate coverage of assets, liabilities and operational risks.
  • Oversee legal and contractual matters, including the review and administration of commercial contracts and agreements, and coordinate Board meeting papers, minutes and follow-up actions.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a small finance team, building competency, succession readiness and a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or professional qualification in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, including 5 years in the capacity of a head of department.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of financial accounting standards and Malaysian regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in accounts finalisation, MIS reporting, tax compliance and accounts supervision.
  • Proven leadership skills to develop and motivate a team, with the ability to foster positive relationships across all departments and levels.
  • Sound judgement and analytical thinking, with the ability to manage projects, prioritise and meet timelines.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel; familiarity with Oracle Fusion would be an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
