Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Head of Takaful Sales is accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of takaful sales performance within the Consumer Banking franchise, covering Mortgage Reducing Term Takaful (MRTT), Group Credit Takaful (GCTT) and advisory‑led family and general takaful solutions.

The role ensures all takaful distribution activities comply with the Islamic Financial Services Act 2013 (IFSA 2013), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Policy Documents, and Shariah governance requirements, while driving sustainable fee‑based income growth and positive customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Business & Financial Accountability

  • Own takaful fee‑based income, contribution and penetration targets.
  • Drive MRTT attachment on housing financing and GCTT penetration on retail financing.
  • Grow advisory takaful conversion across consumer segments.
  • Support Consumer Banking's non‑funded income strategy.

2. Sales Distribution & Execution

  • Lead takaful sales across:
  • The Direct Sales Channel/Team, Branches and other Distribution Channels.
  • Relationship Managers & Financing Specialists
  • Wealth & Advisory Teams
  • Approved digital or tele‑engagement channels
  • Embed takaful propositions into key customer journeys.

3. People, Capability & Conduct

  • Drive a needs‑based advisory culture aligned with BNM Fair Treatment of Financial Consumers (FTFC).
  • Ensure frontline staff meet licensing, certification and CPD requirements.
  • Strengthen ethical selling practices and minimise conduct risk

4. Stakeholder & Partner Management

  • Act as senior business owner for bancatakaful sales with appointed Takaful Operators.
  • Collaborate with Product, Shariah, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations and Marketing teams.
  • Support product launches, campaigns and governance forums.

5. Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with:
  • IFSA 2013
  • Relevant BNM Policy Documents
  • Internal Shariah rulings
  • Monitor persistency, complaints, conduct risk indicators and audit issues.
  • Implement timely remediation actions where required.

6. Performance Management & Reporting

  • Own takaful MIS, dashboards and performance reviews.
  • Provide regular reporting to Consumer Banking leadership and governance committees

7. Others

  • Approve takaful sales strategies, campaigns and channel focus.
  • Endorse advisory and incentive frameworks.
  • Escalate regulatory, Shariah and conduct risks to senior governance forums.

Requirements:

1. Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Banking, Economics or related disciplines.
  • Certifications such as Basic Takaful Examination, PCE, CEILI is an advantage.

2. Experience

  • 10–15 years experience in takaful, insurance or consumer banking sales.
  • Proven senior leadership exposure in bancassurance / bancatakaful.
  • Strong familiarity with Malaysia Regulatory and Shariah governance frameworks.
