Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished and technically astute Head of Taxation to lead the dedicated Tax Section within the Finance Department of a key player in the Malaysian telecommunications and infrastructure sector in Sabah.

This pivotal role requires a hands-on approach, demanding sound commercial judgement and the ability to manage all tax compliance and advisory matters for an essential fibre optic network provider. The successful candidate will ensure full adherence to tax legislation and play a vital strategic role in our operations.

Key Responsibilities and Impact:

  • Compliance & Reporting: Lead and manage the end-to-end process for all direct (Corporate Tax) and indirect tax compliance, including timely submission of tax returns and comprehensive reporting.
  • Proactive Advisory: Provide timely and commercially astute tax advice on day-to-day business operations, complex projects, and commercial contracts within the infrastructure environment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary external liaison, effectively managing relationships with regulatory tax authorities and coordinating the work of external tax consultants/agents.
  • Risk Management: Establish and maintain robust tax governance and internal controls to minimise exposure and manage audit risks.

Essential Candidate Profile:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. A professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, MIA) is a distinct advantage.
  • A minimum of five years relevant, hands-on tax experience, covering both corporate (direct) and indirect taxes. Experience in the telecommunications or infrastructure industry is highly desirable.
  • Deep practical and technical mastery of Malaysian tax law, regulatory guidelines, and reporting obligations.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and offer pragmatic, business-focused solutions when assessing tax implications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrable experience in managing internal stakeholders and external tax authorities.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365) would be beneficial.
  • A strong preference will be given to candidates based in Sabah.
