As an HSE Intern at Lysaght BlueScope, you will support the Health, Safety & Environment function in driving a proactive safety culture and ensuring compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements. You will gain hands-on exposure to integrated HSE management systems within a manufacturing environment, contributing to BlueScope's commitment to HSE Refocus and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE policies, procedures, and management systems in compliance with corporate standards and statutory requirements.
- Assist in workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments (HIRARC), and incident investigations, including root cause analysis (RCA) and timely reporting in internal systems such as MARS.
- Monitor and promote compliance with safe work practices, ATWP systems, PPE requirements, and contractor safety management, including onboarding, inductions, and site compliance monitoring.
- Collect, analyse, and present HSE performance data (leading and lagging indicators) to support data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support environmental management activities such as waste handling, emissions monitoring, and regulatory compliance reporting.
- Contribute to emergency preparedness and response activities, including drills coordination, emergency equipment inspections, and safety campaigns to reinforce a strong Zero Harm culture.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in occupational safety & health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong academic performance (CGPA ≥ 3.0 preferred).
- Foundational knowledge of HSE principles, Malaysian OSHA requirements, and risk assessment methodologies (e.g., HIRARC).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI) is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic manufacturing environment.
- Prior exposure to HSE practices in industrial or manufacturing settings will be an added advantage.
