Job Description

We are pleased to be partnering a leading client in the Construction sector to appoint a commercially minded Human Resources (HR) Business Partner into their Malaysia team. In view of strong performance in 2024 and 2025, the organisation is looking to add depth and onboard a strategic yet hands-on individual who thrives on driving real impact. This role is based in Kuala Lumpur, with some travelling to other offices in Malaysia involved.

Job Description

In this pivotal role, you will serve as the key liaison between HR and business leaders e.g. GM, COO. Leading a small team, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing people strategies that support critical business objectives and foster a high-performing, engaged culture. You will be joining them during a period of rapid ramp-up, hence you will spend much time on the ground understanding workflows, building trust, and seeing challenges first-hand.

  • Build the HR framework – From performance management to employee handbooks, from compliance to culture. There's no established playbook – you'll co-write it.
  • Lead and inspire the team – You'll guide and develop the existing HR team, rolling up your sleeves alongside them.
  • Solve real problems – Miscommunications, gaps in processes, firefighting, team dynamics. You'll identify friction points and fix them.
  • Partner closely with leadership – The management team are hands-on and supportive. You'll advise them, challenge them, and work shoulder-to-shoulder.

The Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a proven proactive and collaborative professional with:

  • Hands-on and unpretentious – Titles don't impress you. Impact does. You'll answer employee queries, mediate conflicts, and also present to leadership.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity – You don't need a perfect org chart or a 100-page policy manual to start contributing. You figure things out as you go.
  • Proactive, not passive – You spot gaps and fix them without waiting for permission. You don't need to be told what to do next.
  • On-the-ground, not detached – You believe HR happens where the work happens. You'll be present, visible, and accessible – not hidden behind email.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and analytical abilities
  • Deep familiarity with Malaysia's employment law
  • Proficiency in HRIS and the Microsoft Office Suite
