Summary of the role
You'll support the Food Safety Manager by leading the technical execution and continuous improvement of the site's sanitation, microbiology testing, and Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP), including hands-on lab work and oversight to ensure cleaning effectiveness and compliance.
What you'll be doing
- Microbiological testing & lab governance: perform hands-on microbiological testing, review Microbiology Analyst results, and ensure GLP and data integrity in lab operations.
- Master Sanitation Plan & SSOP execution: develop/ review the Master Sanitation Plan, ensure SSOPs are validated and consistently executed, and act as SME on sanitation for equipment/ process changes.
- EMP design, trending & investigations: build and run a risk-based EMP, trend results, investigate deviations, and recommend corrective/ preventive actions based on findings.
- Audits, CAPA & capability building: support audits/ inspections, lead or support sanitation/ EMP/ micro CAPA, and mentor the Microbiology Analyst while coaching QA/Production teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related discipline.
- Microbiologist with at least 5 years of microbiology and food safety experience in food manufacturing (supervising lab staff preferred).
- Strong technical knowledge of pathogens/ spoilage organisms, environmental monitoring, and rapid microbiological methods; hands-on lab operations with GLP/ data integrity.
- Able to interpret microbiological/ EMP data, assess risk, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Strong mentoring/ communication skills; solid grounding in GMP, sanitation, pest control and regulatory compliance.
