Position Title: In-House Doctor

Location: Fairview International School

Reports To: Head of School /School Principal

Position Type: Full-Time

Position Overview:

The In-House Doctor will be responsible for the overall health and wellbeing of students, staff, and visitors at Fairview International School. This role involves providing medical care, managing health emergencies, promoting wellness programs, and offering guidance on health-related matters in an educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide Medical Care:

  • Diagnose and treat minor injuries, illnesses, and health conditions of students and staff.
  • Administer first aid as necessary and coordinate emergency care for more serious injuries.
  • Maintain confidential health records for students and staff as required by school policies and local regulations.

Health Emergencies & First Aid:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for handling health emergencies during school hours.
  • Ensure that first aid kits are well-stocked and ready for use at all times.
  • Coordinate with emergency services (ambulance, hospital) in case of critical health issues.

Health Education & Promotion:

  • Provide health education sessions for students and staff on topics such as hygiene, mental health, nutrition, and preventive healthcare.
  • Monitor trends in school illness and health concerns and provide recommendations to the school management.
  • Work closely with the school's administration to organize vaccination programs and other public health initiatives.

Medical Records & Documentation:

  • Maintain up-to-date health records for students, including medical histories, allergies, vaccinations, and special medical needs.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians about students medical needs, absenteeism due to illness, and any follow-up care required.
  • Provide reports on health-related incidents to the school management.

Collaboration with Other Staff:

  • Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, and administration to support student well-being.
  • Assist in planning and providing accommodations for students with special health needs (e.g., allergies, chronic conditions).
  • Serve as a health consultant for school policies related to health and safety (e.g., managing contagious diseases, mental health support).

Health & Safety Protocols:

  • Ensure that the school complies with local health regulations and safety standards.
  • Regularly update health and safety policies, ensuring they align with local and national guidelines.
  • Participate in health and safety drills and training for school staff.

Mental Health Support:

  • Provide initial mental health support and counseling for students in need.
  • Refer students to external mental health professionals when necessary.
  • Raise awareness on mental health issues and promote a supportive environment for students.

General Health Administration:

  • Manage the school's health clinic and associated equipment.
  • Ensure the maintenance of cleanliness and safety in the health room.
  • Stay up-to-date on medical best practices, school health trends, and local health policies.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent), with valid medical license to practice in Malaysia.
  • Experience in a clinical setting, with at least 2 years of experience in pediatric or general practice preferred.
  • Familiarity with child and adolescent health issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Current first aid and CPR certifications.
  • Knowledge of local health and safety regulations, including those relevant to schools.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience working in a school environment or with children.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and in emergency situations.
  • Interest in promoting a healthy lifestyle and wellness in an educational setting.
  • Fluency in English is a must
  • Proficiency in speaking Mandarin is an advantage

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position with working hours aligning with school schedules or as and when needed.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for special events or emergencies.
  • On-campus role with access to medical supplies and a dedicated health room.
