What's the role

We are FIQ (Subscription & Development Platform IT), the team that bridges Hilti's business needs with cutting-edge cloud technology. As an IT Business Analyst Intern, you'll work at the intersection of business strategy and technical implementation, helping translate complex subscription business requirements into technical solutions for our cloud platform. You'll collaborate with product owners, architects, developers, and business stakeholders across Global IT and various business units to shape how Hilti's digital services evolve.

This role offers a unique opportunity to understand enterprise IT from both sidesthe business challenges driving digital transformation and the technical architecture enabling it. You'll work on real initiatives involving subscription management, identity services, AWS platform capabilities, and integrations with enterprise systems like SAP and Salesforce. A key aspect of this role is developing an understanding of AWS cloud services and solutionslearning how different AWS products can address business needs and enable platform capabilities. As part of our international, multidisciplinary team, you'll gain exposure to how large-scale IT platforms support global business operations. The start date for the internship is flexible to the student's availability with a duration of at least 4-6 months.

What You'll Do

As an IT Business Analyst Intern in FIQ, you'll be involved in the full lifecycle of cloud platform initiativesfrom requirements gathering and analysis to solution design and implementation support. You'll work closely with our Cloud Development Platform team, product owners, and architects to understand business needs for Hilti Cloud Core services, AWS platform capabilities, and cloud infrastructure enhancements. Your analysis and documentation will directly influence technical decisions and development priorities for our cloud ecosystem.

Core Analysis & Requirements Activities

  • Gather and analyze business requirements for Hilti Cloud Core services (CloudSSO identity management, API Gateway, platform authentication)
  • Document functional specifications for cloud platform enhancements, AWS infrastructure capabilities, and internal developer platform features
  • Leverage AI tools like Kiro to accelerate requirements documentation, generate technical specifications, and research AWS best practices
  • Evaluate AWS service offerings to recommend appropriate cloud solutions for business requirements (e.g., Lambda for serverless functions, API Gateway for API management, ECS for containerization, RDS for databases)
  • Assess how AWS products can address platform needs for scalability, reliability, disaster recovery, and cost optimization
  • Analyze requirements for emerging initiatives like MCP-Gateway (AI agent integration), AgentCore platform, and multi-cloud architectures
  • Create process flows, architecture diagrams, and system interaction diagrams to clarify cloud platform requirements
  • Facilitate workshops with internal stakeholders (digital product teams like Hilti Online, Profis, On!Track) to understand their cloud platform needs
  • Translate business needs into user stories and acceptance criteria for cloud development teams
  • Support Architecture & Security Reviews (ASR) by documenting business context, compliance requirements, and AWS solution recommendations

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Work with Cloud Development Platform product owners and architects to understand platform roadmap and priorities
  • Collaborate with digital product teams (Hilti Online, Profis, On!Track, and other BU applications) that consume Hilti Cloud services
  • Engage with identity management stakeholders on CloudSSO, Auth0, and authentication/authorization requirements
  • Partner with AWS solution architects and platform engineers on infrastructure and cloud service capabilities
  • Participate in sprint planning, refinement sessions, and demos within Scrum teams
  • Present findings and AWS solution recommendations to technical and business audiences
  • Coordinate with international teams across different time zones and cultures
  • Support disaster recovery planning and FinOps (cloud cost optimization) initiatives

Tools & Methodologies You'll Use

  • Requirements management: Jira, Confluence, user story mapping
  • Process modeling: BPMN, flowcharts, sequence diagrams
  • AI-powered tools: Kiro (AWS-powered AI coding assistant) for documentation generation, requirements analysis, and technical research
  • AWS services knowledge: Understanding of core AWS offerings (EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway, CloudWatch, IAM, etc.)
  • Cloud solution analysis: Evaluating AWS products for specific business use cases
  • Agile methodology: Scrum ceremonies, backlog refinement
  • Documentation: Technical specifications, API documentation, architecture diagrams, AWS solution designs
  • Analysis techniques: Gap analysis, impact assessment, feasibility studies, cost-benefit analysis for cloud solutions
  • Collaboration tools: Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Miro
