Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Inventory Assistant Manager to oversee inventory planning, purchasing coordination, and supplier management. This role ensures optimal stock levels, cost efficiency, supply continuity, and compliance while supporting business growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management
- Plan, monitor, and control inventory levels to meet operational needs while minimizing excess stock and shortages.
- Develop and maintain inventory control systems, including forecasting models, reorder points, and safety stock policies.
- Conduct regular inventory audits, cycle counts, and reconciliations to ensure data accuracy.
- Analyze inventory turnover, aging, and usage trends to improve efficiency and reduce carrying costs.
- Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams to ensure proper storage, handling, and stock rotation.
- Identify and manage obsolete, slow-moving, or damaged inventory.
Purchasing & Supplier Coordination
- Source, evaluate, and onboard suppliers based on cost, quality, reliability, and delivery performance.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and service-level agreements with vendors.
- Issue purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to quality, delays, or discrepancies.
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, budgets, and ethical standards.
Planning & Forecasting
- Collaborate with sales, production, and finance teams to forecast demand accurately.
- Align purchasing plans with production schedules and business objectives.
- Develop inventory strategies to support cost control and supply continuity.
- Prepare and manage inventory budgets.
Data, Systems & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records in ERP and inventory management systems.
- Generate and analyze reports on inventory levels, costs, lead times, and supplier performance.
- Use data insights to recommend process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
Risk & Compliance Management
- Identify supply chain risks and develop contingency plans, including alternative sourcing and buffer stock strategies.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
- Manage documentation related to inventory and purchasing transactions.
Team & Stakeholder Coordination
- Lead, coach, and supervise inventory staff (if applicable).
- Act as the primary point of contact between suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Communicate inventory status, risks, and plans to management.
Requirements
- 57+ years of experience in inventory management, supply chain, or a related field.
- Proven experience managing inventory planning, supplier coordination, and purchasing operations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret inventory data and trends.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems and inventory management tools.
- Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
