Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician provides operational support to the laboratory team by assisting in daily activities such as sample preparation, chemical handling, and inventory management. This entry-level role ensures the laboratory environment remains safe, well-organized, and efficient.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Assist in sample preparation and conduct routine analyses, including basic quality control checks in accordance with established procedures
- Perform laboratory testing on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and environmental samples
- Prepare reagents and standard solutions based on defined procedures and schedules
- Support issuance of Certificates of Quality (CoQ) through the ERP system
Inventory & Systems Management
- Maintain accurate records of chemical inventory, including receipt, usage, and disposal under supervision
- Monitor stock levels of laboratory consumables such as glassware, filters, and PPE
- Perform Goods Receipt (GR) entries in the ERP system when required
- Utilize Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and other systems for data entry and tracking
Equipment & Maintenance
- Support basic laboratory equipment operation, maintenance, and documentation
- Assist in instrument calibration and preventive maintenance activities under supervision
- Apply basic analytical techniques with exposure to instruments such as GC and ICP-OES
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals in compliance with safety standards
- Adhere to laboratory safety procedures and HSE guidelines at all times
- Support chemical waste handling and disposal in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Follow quality management systems, including ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025 standards
Operational & Team Support
- Assist supervisors and analysts in daily laboratory operations
- Support special sampling activities, investigations, and third-party witnessing when required
- Maintain good housekeeping practices, including cleanliness, organization, and 5S implementation
- Promote effective coordination and knowledge sharing with operations personnel
Job Requirements
- Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor's Degree in Science, Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, or a related field
- Fresh graduates or candidates with up to 2 years of relevant laboratory experience
- Basic knowledge of laboratory instruments such as Gas Chromatography (GC) and ICP spectrometry
- Familiarity with LIMS and general data handling tools
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Basic understanding of laboratory safety practices and quality systems (ISO 9001)
- Added Advantage: Exposure to ISO/IEC 17025 standards, Experience in industries such as chemical manufacturing, oleochemicals, or environmental testing
