As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the Phytopathology Laboratory by performing diagnostic activities and conducting routine plant disease testing trials in accordance with established protocols and guidelines; contributing directly to the global seed industry.
- You'll be at the heart of our phytopathology team in establishing our quality data and processes as part of research programs.
- Work closely with Phytopathology, Breeding and Farm teams, gaining exposure to multiple departments and stakeholders.
- You will report to the Senior Researcher, Phytopathology.
Make a Difference as Laboratory Technician
As a Laboratory Technician, you'll work in a dynamic environment where autonomy, collaboration, and impact go hand in hand. Next to that, you'll responsible:
- Phytopathology lab management
- Co-ordinate daily operations of Phytopathology lab as per standard SOP's and Biosafety and HSE guidelines.
- Independently maintain inventory of lab chemicals and consumables, raise procurement requests, co-ordinate equipment maintenance.
- Production and supply of media and inoculum (fungal and bacterial cultures) as per demand.
- Support plant disease diagnostic activities in lab
- Independently conduct pathogen isolation, ELISA and PCR assays for routine diagnosis as requested by research team.
- Assist Research team in new diagnostic tool development and support new bioassay development.
- Manage plant pathogen and insect vector cultures
- Maintain pathogen cultures in lab - manage multiplication and maintenance of plant fungal and bacterial cultures in lab.
- Maintain live virus and insect culture manage multiplication and maintenance of live plant virus cultures, whiteflies and aphid insect vector culture for round the year supply with support from workers.
- Conduct purity verification of both plant pathogen and insect vector cultures.
- Support routine disease testing trials and bio-assay development
- Support Research team in execution of routine disease trials and new bioassay development test plant preparation, inoculation, monitoring test condition, leaf sampling, data recording etc.
- Co-ordinate with Research and Farm team for handover of screened and selected plants for seed production.
- Track and communicate the status of weekly work plan in standard format/via MS team channel.
- Share inputs/ideas on improving quality & efficiency of Phytopathology activities.
What You Bring As a Future Colleague
In short, you:
- Associate's degree in Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Plant Science or any related course, with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to work with all relevant systems/basic equipment.
- Ability to work with different crops and chemicals in the prescribed and safe manner.
- Proficient in the Bahasa and English language, both written and verbal.
- Ability in data handling, people management, planning and task prioritizations.
- Able to work independently and under pressure, with a proactive mindset.
- Occasionally work on weekends (need based).
