Job Description

We are seeking a talented individual to join our DBA team at Marsh & McLennan Asia Business Services (MMABS). This role will be based in our Pavilion Damansara Corporate Towers, Kuala Lumpur office. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working as per respective team's arrangement.

Lead Database Administrator (PostgreSQL & MongoDB)

Proficient in PostgreSQL and MongoDB, or skilled in Oracle Database with a willingness to upskill in PostgreSQL and MongoDB

Combines hands-on technical expertise with proven leadership skills

We will count on you to:

  • Responsibilities will include creating, supporting and maintaining various databases managed by the Database Services team
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust database solutions
  • Provide expert-level support and troubleshooting for database environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
  • Configure Barman server for new database cluster
  • Responsible for the monitoring and up-time of all production databases.
  • Estimate database capacities; develop methods for monitoring database capacity and usage.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for database management processes and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, standards, and best practices in database administration.
  • Manage regular database backups and ensure reliable recovery processes.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as vacuuming, reindexing, and archiving to optimize performance.
  • Design, implement, and recommend disaster recovery (DR) plans and high availability (HA) solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project delivery and ongoing operational support.
  • Collaborate closely with the application team to understand upcoming builds, patches, and hotfixes; conduct impact analysis and optimize queries as needed

What you need to have:

  • At least a bachelor's degree with minimum of 8 years of combined project and support experience, preferably with PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB.
  • Candidates with Oracle Database skills will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role managing a team of 5 to 8 members.
  • Proven ability to support and guide teams, manage work allocation, conduct performance and development conversations, and handle difficult discussions effectively.
  • Experience with cloud database platforms and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with database security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of enterprise application technology architecture, components, databases, networking, and infrastructure as code
  • Strong scripting experience - Unix/Shell Scripting, Python
  • Technical knowledge of Linux & Windows-based platforms
  • LDAPs configuration for authentication
  • Flexible to provide support after working hours, weekends and/or Wilayah Persekutuan public holidays when required
  • Work shifts start at 6 a.m. KL time during Australian Daylight Saving and at 7 a.m. KL time thereafter.
