Wood has an opportunity for a Lead Piping Engineer to represent the owner's engineering authority for piping discipline for a Bio LNG / LNG Project, ensuring that EPC contractor(s) deliver piping design, materials, fabrication, construction, and documentation.

The Role

The Lead Piping Engineer is accountable for ensuring that EPC Contractor piping engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and documentation are fit for purpose, safe, operable, and maintainable, and fully compliant with project specifications, applicable codes, and LNG industry best practices.

Operating in an oversight and assurance capacity, the Lead Piping Engineer provides technical governance, independent review, and expert decision-making across all phases of the project lifecycle. The position focuses on safeguarding quality, safety, cost, and schedule performance through effective engineering leadership, risk identification, and resolution of technical issues, rather than performing detailed design.

Responsibilities

  • Act as single point of contact (SPOC) for all piping‑related matters within IPMT
  • Provide technical leadership and discipline governance across FEED, EPC, and commissioning phases
  • Review, comment, accept, or recommend approval of EPC piping deliverables
  • Ensure piping design aligns with:
    • LNG process safety requirements
    • Cryogenic service constraints
    • Constructability, operability, and maintainability principles
  • Manage interfaces with Process, Layout, Stress, Rotating, Static, Materials, Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, and Construction
  • Support project management on:
    • Schedule risk
    • Cost risk
    • Technical queries and change management

Expected

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.

  • Minimum 13 years experience in piping engineering within LNG, Bio LNG, petrochemical, or refinery projects, including EPC delivery environments.
  • Strong knowledge of international piping codes and standards (e.g. ASME, API, ISO) and LNG industry best practices, including cryogenic service requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical reviews, manage contractor interfaces, and make sound engineering decisions impacting safety, cost, and schedule.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge EPC contractors constructively and drive technical compliance.
