Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal and compliance advisory to Management, internal stakeholders, and clients on governance, regulatory, legal risk, and family office matters.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and oversee legal and governance documentation including contracts, Family Constitutions, Trust-related documents, Wills, Powers of Attorney, NDAs, MOUs, and client engagement agreements.
  • Ensure legal deliverables are completed accurately, consistently, and in alignment with client objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee legal documentation, regulatory compliance, and legal risk assessment across advisory, corporate services, and operational functions.
  • Advise on legal structuring, cross-border enforceability, governance arrangements, and asset-holding structures.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel, regulators, trustees, tax advisors, and professional advisors on legal and compliance matters.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines including SC, BNM, Labuan IBFC, AML/CFT, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee regulatory filings, licensing renewals, compliance reporting, KYC/AML reviews, client onboarding, and due diligence processes.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and review of internal policies, SOPs, governance frameworks, and compliance controls.
  • Support Family Office clients on succession planning, family governance, and related advisory matters.
  • Lead and participate in client meetings, governance discussions, and cross-functional implementation initiatives.
  • Supervise and guide the Legal & Compliance team, including work allocation, quality control, mentoring, and team development.
  • Maintain proper documentation standards, confidentiality, and compliance governance across the department.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution; admission to the Malaysian Bar is an advantage.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in legal, compliance, or regulatory functions, preferably within financial services, trust services, or family office environments.
  • Sound understanding of Malaysian legal and regulatory frameworks (e.g. SC, BNM, Labuan IBFC), with exposure to international compliance practices.
  • Strong legal drafting, analytical, and risk assessment skills.
  • Good command of Malay and English, both written and spoken. Mandarin-speaking ability is preferred to effectively liaise with Mandarin-speaking clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential matters.
  • Able to work independently while being a proactive team player.
