Adecco's client is looking for an experienced Legal & Compliance Manager to oversee the company's legal, regulatory, and compliance functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the organization operates in compliance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and internal governance standards while providing legal advisory support to the business. The successful candidate will also drive compliance initiatives relating to AML/CFT, data protection, regulatory reporting, and corporate governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal and compliance advisory support to business units by identifying regulatory risks and recommending practical solutions.
- Monitor changes in relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry guidelines, ensuring the business remains compliant and stakeholders are kept informed.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other legal documentation.
- Act as the key liaison with regulatory authorities, government agencies, external legal counsel, and other relevant stakeholders on legal and compliance matters.
- Develop and facilitate compliance awareness programmes and legal training to promote a strong culture of compliance across the organization.
- Oversee Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT), and Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance activities, including reviewing suspicious transactions and fulfilling regulatory reporting obligations.
- Conduct compliance monitoring, audits, and periodic reviews across headquarters and regional offices to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and operational procedures.
- Identify compliance gaps and work closely with stakeholders to implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support investigations relating to employee misconduct, whistleblowing cases, customer complaints, and regulatory enquiries.
- Manage legal disputes, litigation, tribunal matters, and coordinate with appointed external legal counsel where necessary.
- Serve as the organization's Data Protection Officer (DPO), overseeing data privacy compliance, investigating data breaches, and managing reporting obligations.
- Evaluate and manage external legal panel firms, including performance reviews and engagement oversight.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Law, Business, Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in legal, compliance, governance, or regulatory roles.
- Prior experience within the banking, insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) regulations, AML/CFT/KYC requirements, regulatory reporting, and compliance monitoring.
- Experience working closely with regulatory authorities, government agencies, and external legal counsel.
- Excellent stakeholder management, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Willing to travel occasionally to regional offices for compliance reviews and monitoring activities.
