In the role of Legal Counsel - Compliance, you will help achieve this by leading all aspects of the SEA region operations to meet high ethics, integrity, and regulatory standards. You will be a trusted guide for business leaders, focusing on early detection of risks, reinforcing compliance structures, and promoting responsible growth.
What You Will Do
Legal & Compliance Advisory
- Provide practical and business-focused legal advice on compliance matters, including anti-bribery and corruption (ABAC), data privacy, competition law, third-party risk, and industry-specific regulations.
- Review, assess, and support commercial contracts, distributor agreements, and third-party engagements with an emphasis on compliance requirements.
- Guide local leadership and functional teams on compliance-related questions, policy interpretation, and risk mitigation strategies.
Compliance Program Implementation
- Support implementation of Thermo Fisher's global anti bribery and data privacy compliance program in South East Asia, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and local regulatory expectations.
- Conduct compliance risk assessments and partner with cross-functional collaborators (Commercial, Finance, HR, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Quality).
- Lead or support internal compliance investigations, working closely with global and regional compliance teams.
- Coordinate compliance certifications, policy rollouts, and local governance processes.
Training & Awareness
- Develop and provide compliance training programs for employees, channel partners, and other relevant collaborators.
- Promote a strong culture of ethics and accountability through ongoing education and awareness activities.
- Collaborate with global compliance partners to localize training content for SEA audiences.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Lead monitoring activities, external due diligence, gifts and hospitality reviews, conflict-of- interest disclosures, and compliance audits.
- Support reporting obligations to regional and global compliance leadership.
- Run local compliance metrics, remediation actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) admission to the Malaysian Bar strongly preferred.
- 4-7 years of relevant legal/compliance experience, ideally with a multinational corporation or reputable law firm.
- Experience in ABAC, privacy laws, or internal investigations is an advantage.
- Exposure to life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing, or regulated industries.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of SEA regulatory and corporate governance frameworks.
- Ability to translate regulations in multiple jurisdictions into clear, practical advice for business partners.
- Ability to work in a matrixed, multicultural environment across APAC.
