Role Purpose
The Legal Counsel (Real Estate) is responsible for providing legal advice and support on the Company's property and real estate matters, including property transactions, leases and tenancies, contract drafting and negotiation, and legal risk management.
The role will work closely with internal stakeholders and external legal counsel to support the Company's business and protect its legal and commercial interests.
Job Description
1.Property & Real Estate Transactions
- Provide legal advice and support on real estate and property transactions, including leases, tenancies, licenses and other property-related agreements.
- Review, draft and negotiate property-related legal documents and agreements.
- Support the end-to-end legal process for property transactions, ensuring that relevant legal, commercial and business considerations are addressed.
- Advise internal stakeholders on landlord and tenant matters and other property-related legal issues.
2.Legal Risk & Compliance
- Identify potential legal and contractual risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
- Provide advice on applicable laws, regulations and legal requirements relevant to the Company's property activities.
- Ensure legal documentation and processes are appropriately managed and compliant with applicable requirements.
- Support the resolution of property-related disputes and other legal matters where required.
3.Stakeholder & External Counsel Management
- Act as a key legal advisor to internal stakeholders on property and real estate matters.
- Liaise with and manage external legal counsel, including providing instructions, reviewing advice and ensuring matters are progressed within agreed timelines.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to provide practical and commercially sound legal solutions.
- Translate legal requirements and risks into clear and practical advice for business stakeholders.
4.General Legal Support
- Support the wider Legal team on other corporate, commercial and regulatory matters when required.
- Maintain proper records of legal documents, agreements and property-related legal matters.
- Stay updated on relevant changes in legislation, regulations and legal developments that may impact the Company's business.
Job Requirement
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience, with strong experience in real estate/property matters.
- Experience in property transactions, commercial leases and tenancy agreements.
- Strong experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal agreements.
- Good knowledge of Malaysian laws and regulations relevant to property and real estate.
- Strong legal research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide practical business advice.
- Able to work independently and manage multiple matters and deadlines.
- Prior in-house legal experience and/or retail/commercial property experience would be an advantage.
