Location: Xiamen / Kualu Lumpur
Role Purpose:
As a strategic legal leader, you will oversee legal and compliance governance across global markets (Southeast Asia, USA, Europe, MEA, and LATAM). You will be responsible for building a robust legal moat that supports rapid business expansion while ensuring global regulatory integrity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Global Compliance Framework & Governance
- Compliance Foundations: Monitor and ensure high-quality compliance across target jurisdictions, covering foreign investment entry, retail/wholesale operations, international trade, labor laws, data privacy (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, PDPA), and industry-specific regulations.
- Systemic Output: Translate group standards into localized, scalable legal risk control processes. Regularly produce Regional Compliance Playbooks with high actionable value for business units.
2. Strategic Transactions & Contract Management
- Core Negotiations: Lead legal structuring and negotiations for cross-border M&A, regional asset acquisitions, international e-commerce platform setups, and global distribution/franchising systems.
- Standardization: Maintain a unified global contract template library while adapting clauses to meet specific local jurisdictional requirements.
3. Risk Mitigation & Crisis Management
- Strategic Insights: Identify structural risks in overseas expansion, including FIRRMA/CFIUS reviews, product compliance, ESG mandates, sanctions, and intellectual property (IP) protection.
- Crisis Coordination: Act as the lead coordinator for government investigations, major litigation, arbitration, and high-impact negative events, formulating rapid-response strategies.
4. Business Enablement & Resource Orchestration
- Structural Design: Drive due diligence for new market entries and design optimal investment structures considering tax, foreign exchange, and exit mechanisms.
- Resource Management: Manage relationships with top-tier global law firms and consultants, maximizing service quality within budgetary constraints.
- Leadership: Lead a cross-regional, multicultural legal team to enhance the organization's overall legal efficiency and capability.
5. Cross-functional Synergy & Ecosystem Building
- Empowerment: Conduct regular legal training to enhance the compliance DNA of global business lines.
- Brand Reputation: Represent the company in international legal forums and industry organizations to uphold the firm's global compliance standing.
Key Requirements
- Experience: LL.M. or J.D. from a reputable law school. 8+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in top-tier law firms or multinational corporations (MNCs).
- Jurisdictional Expertise: Deep knowledge of at least two target regions. Priority given to candidates with expertise in US and Middle East foreign investment and retail/e-commerce sectors.
- Languages & Qualifications: Fluency in English (professional proficiency for complex contract drafting and negotiation). Admission to the Bar in China, USA (New York/California), or UK/Common Law jurisdictions is highly preferred.
- Business Acumen: A strategic mindset that views legal as a business accelerator rather than just a risk brake.
- Global Mobility: Previous long-term overseas work experience is preferred. Must be comfortable with cross-time zone collaboration and international travel.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional cross-cultural communication, high resilience, and the ability to make decisive judgments in volatile and uncertain environments.
