Job Description
The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC mills and/or lathes to produce high-precision components. This role requires machining knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret drawings and control tight tolerances. The machinist ensures all parts meet quality standards, efficiency, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machines with minimal supervision according to Work Instructions and Tooling List.
- Install, setup and adjust tooling offset, setup fixtures, work holding, and machine offsets.
- Meet daily production targets with consistent part quality.
- Load programs and prove out new FAI jobs safely.
- Troubleshoot machining issues where applicable and communicate with supervisor, CADCAM programmers, and quality inspectors to resolve issues.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and support team workflow.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Inspect in-process and finished parts using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other precision tools.
- Support training of operator/fitter as needed.
- Perform machine routine preventive maintenance
- Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with shop standards.
Job Requirements
- Diploma, Certificate or equivalent experience
- 3–7 years of CNC machining experience (mills, lathes, or multi-axis).
- Experience in high-precision or high-mix/low-volume environments strongly preferred.
- Strong CNC setup and operating ability.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawing
- Experience with Haas, Fanuc, Heidenhain, or similar controls.
- Proficient with precision measuring instruments.
- Strong attention to detail and quality mindset.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Good hand–eye coordination and manual dexterity.
