JOB DESCRIPTION
The Machinist – Plastic Machining is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining conventional and CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision plastic components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and production requirements. The role ensures product quality, machine efficiency, and adherence to safety and quality standards while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC and conventional machining equipment used for plastic machining operations.
- Load programs, install tooling, fixtures, and workpieces, and verify machine readiness before production.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, machining parameters, and feeds and speeds based on material and product specifications.
- Perform machine adjustments and tool offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy and production efficiency.
- Produce precision plastic components in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and production schedules.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and CMM (where applicable).
- Ensure all machined components meet dimensional tolerances and quality requirements.
- Identify non-conforming products and perform corrective actions or escalate issues to the supervisor or Quality team.
- Perform routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance.
- Monitor tooling wear and replace cutting tools as required to maintain machining quality.
- Report machine abnormalities, breakdowns, or tooling issues promptly to the Maintenance or Production Supervisor.
- Maintain equipment and work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
- Record production output, machine downtime, scrap, rework, and material consumption accurately.
- Complete production documentation, inspection reports, and machine logs in accordance with company procedures.
- Support inventory control by minimizing material waste and ensuring proper handling of raw materials and finished goods.
Requirements
- Minimum SPM, SKM, Certificate, or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Precision Machining, or a related technical discipline.
- CNC Machining certification is an added advantage.
- Minimum 2–5 years of machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Experience operating CNC milling and/or turning machines for plastic materials is preferred.
- Experience with engineering plastics such as PEEK, PTFE, Delrin (POM), UHMW-PE, PVC, Acrylic, Nylon, or similar materials is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining principles and machining processes for plastic materials.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and machining specifications.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, tool selection, feeds and speeds, and machining parameters.
- Proficient in using precision measuring instruments.
- Basic knowledge of CNC program editing and machine offsets.
- Good analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Basic computer literacy for production reporting and manufacturing systems.
