About the Role
The Manager, Group Tax supports the Group's tax operations, compliance, and reporting across multiple entities and jurisdictions. This role involves overseeing direct, indirect, expatriate, and transfer pricing matters, supporting tax audits and compliance, engaging with tax authorities and advisors, monitoring regulatory developments, strengthening tax governance and internal controls, and providing tax advisory support on business operations, projects, tenders, and procurement matters.
Responsibilities
Tax Operations, Compliance and Advisory
- Support the Head of Group Tax in managing tax-related matters for the Group across all entities and jurisdictions.
- Oversee and manage the Group's tax compliance and operational matters, including direct tax, indirect tax and expatriate tax reporting together with its related compliance obligations.
- Manage external tax advisors and review tax computations, tax returns, and related submissions to ensure timely and accurate compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Coordinate with local finance teams to collate data and information for responses to external tax advisors in relation to tax computation and tax authority queries.
- Foster and maintain effective relationships with tax authorities and relevant government agencies.
- Assist in provide tax advisory support and recommendations on business transactions, operational matters, project tenders, vendor arrangements, and tax implications relating to Group activities.
- Assist in tax projects and initiatives.
- Support the implementation and enhancement of tax governance, internal controls, and operational processes within the Group Tax function.
Transfer Pricing
- Support in preparation of transfer pricing documentation and coordinate with external tax advisors at both Group and local entity levels.
- Support in process enhancement to ensure alignment with transfer pricing policies, guidelines, and compliance requirements.
- Assist business units and internal stakeholders on transfer pricing operational matters and related documentation requirements.
Tax Accounting
- Oversee the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly tax provisions for the Group in accordance with financial reporting requirements.
- Review current and deferred tax calculations to ensure adequate recognition in the financial statements.
- Support Bursa Malaysia quarterly and annual reporting requirements by reviewing tax-related disclosures, including effective tax rate reconciliation, deferred tax movements, and tax note disclosures.
Complexities of the Job
- Ensure adherence to statutory tax compliance deadlines across various jurisdictions where the Group operates.
- Manage complex tax compliance and reporting requirements involving multiple jurisdictions and business operations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and international tax developments, including corporate tax, indirect tax, customs, VAT/GST, transfer pricing, and expatriate tax matters.
- Provide practical tax support and operational guidance to business units relating to new business activities, projects, and operational arrangements.
- Coordinate effectively with multiple stakeholders, including finance teams, HR, legal, business units, external tax advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
Qualifications
- Degree in Finance/Accounting or equivalent with professional qualifications e.g. MIA/CTIM/ACCA/MICPA/ICAEW/CPA/CIMA recognised qualifications.
Experience
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in Tax and Administration, Accounting and Finance. Managing corporate tax matter, working experience in Big 4 accounting firm, or commercial sector handling corporate tax, personal income tax, SST/GST and advisory.
