About the Role

Responsible for providing Shariah advisory function across the Bank's businesses, including managing and ensuring that product and services review and approval processes comply with the Bank's Shariah standards and requirements, under the oversight of the Head of Shariah Advisory.

What you will do:

  • Act as the Shariah Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all Shariah‑related matters, in line with the Bank's Shariah Board rulings, Resolutions of SAC Bank Negara Malaysia / Securities Commission and AAOIFI and other applicable Shariah standards.
  • Review and advise on new and existing products, including product structures, variations, campaigns and marketing materials.
  • Vet all product‑related and non‑product‑related documents (e.g. SBM submission paper, legal agreements, vendor arrangements, forms, terms & conditions) from a Shariah perspective.
  • Identify, assess and resolve potential Shariah issues during product development, structuring and implementation.
  • Support the pre‑product approval process and prepare submissions with strong Shariah analysis for the Shariah Board.
  • Present product and service proposals to the Shariah Board and ensure timely communication of Board decisions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Draft and issue Shariah Rulings and ensure consistency with Shariah Board standards.
  • Provide day‑to‑day Shariah advice to Business Units/Support Units and other internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct or participate in discussions with internal and external parties (regulators, vendors, partners) to address Shariah matters.
  • Conduct Shariah research and studies on banking, financing and investment products.
  • Ensure Shariah compliance across Retail, Corporate, Investment Banking, Treasury, SME Financing, Money Market, Capital Market and Unit Trust products.
  • Seek guidance from the Shariah Board who may consult the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia/Securities Commissions whenever there is any ambiguity or uncertainty as to an investment, instrument, system, procedure and process.
  • Assist in proper documentation, record‑keeping, and filing, including Shariah Board meeting minutes.
  • Ensure all Shariah Advisory deliverables are completed within agreed turnaround time (TAT).
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with the Bank's policies and governance requirements.
  • Support the Head of Shariah Advisory and collaborate with other team members.
  • Foster a professional, collaborative working environment and continuously develop competency through training and conferences.

Skills and experience you possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Shariah or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Certificate in Islamic Finance, Economics, Banking or Accounting.
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years experience in Islamic financial services industry and in Shariah Advisory/Research (Banking /Takaful Industry)
  • Able to work in tight deadlines and stressful situation
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Good command of English and Arabic
  • Displays good supervisory & leadership skills
  • Result driven, independent and highly motivated
  • Willing to work at odd hour (middle eastern time zone)
  • Hardworking and team player
