About the Role
The role involves pricing subject-matter expertise, advanced pricing capability development, client engagement and advisory, and project governance and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Pricing Subject-Matter Expertise — Commercial & Specialty Lines
- Act as SME for commercial and specialty lines pricing across the client portfolio, setting the technical approach and owning the quality of the deliverables.
- Lead product development, rate-making, and pricing strategy.
- Build, review and maintain pricing models and rating engines.
- Establish and enforce model governance: documentation standards, assumption logs, validation and peer review, version control and audit trails.
- Own portfolio monitoring: rate adequacy and rate change analysis, loss ratios, dislocation and disruption analysis, and early-warning diagnostics that flag deterioration before it reaches the results.
- Support regulatory product/rate filing and compliance requirements.
Advanced Pricing Capability Development
- Drive the modernisation of our pricing capability — designing digital, automated and AI-enabled actuarial workflows that replace manual, spreadsheet-bound processes.
- Build reusable assets: pricing model templates, rating plan libraries, automated data pipelines, monitoring dashboards and standardised reporting packs.
- Apply machine learning and advanced analytics where they genuinely improve on classical methods — model selection, feature engineering, interpretability, drift monitoring — and be clear about where they do not.
- Evaluate and work with modern pricing and analytics platforms; partner with our data, technology and AI teams to embed pricing capability into client environments.
- Contribute to internal knowledge and thought leadership — methodology notes, training material, whitepapers and client-facing points of view on pricing sophistication, rate adequacy and the practical use of AI in actuarial work.
Client Engagement and Advisory
- Personally contribute to client engagements, converting analysis into decisions clients can act on.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders including Chief Actuaries, Chief Underwriting Officers, pricing heads and C-suite audiences.
- Advise on pricing strategy, portfolio steering, underwriting appetite and the operating model needed to support them.
- Build and sustain trusted client relationships; identify adjacent needs across pricing, reserving, portfolio analytics and actuarial transformation, and support proposals and scoping with account leadership.
Project Governance and Operational Excellence
- Run engagements to a high standard of governance: clear scope, plan, milestones, quality gates and change control.
- Manage stakeholders on both sides — client sponsors and internal delivery teams — with proactive, transparent communication and no surprises.
- Lead and develop a distributed delivery team of actuaries, analysts and students.
- Own delivery metrics — timeliness, quality, utilisation and client satisfaction — and drive continuous improvement in how the team works.
Qualifications
- Actuary (Qualified or pursuing) — IFoA, CAS, IAI or equivalent recognised body.
- 6 - 8years of P&C pricing experience with exposure to US/UK/Europe markets.
- Deep commercial and specialty lines exposure across the US, UK/Europe markets — spanning product development, pricing and rate-making, and regulatory filing.
- Actuarial transformation experience — digital workflows, pricing platform development and implementation, process automation, and practical application of AI/ML in a pricing context.
- Strong technical proficiency in Python, R, SAS and/or SQL, advanced Excel, and modern data and analytics tooling.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication — able to explain technical reasoning to underwriters, executives and regulators without losing precision or the audience.
- Proven stakeholder management and consulting skills: managing expectations, handling challenge, and working effectively across client and internal teams.
- Sound judgement on materiality — knows which refinements change a decision, and which do not.
